Question about 1999 Lexus ES 300

I have lexus 1999.es300.28000 miles.have crome wheels on it.one of the wheels,front on passenger side is loosing 4.5 lbs of air.the tyre is once puncture repaired.got checked with disc-count tyre.his saying is leakage thru. wheels.and he said there is always such problem with crome plated wheels.advise better to replace all4.guide me what to do,

Mcdevito75 here, Your Tire Mechanic could be right regarding the chrome wheels leaking a bit of air, however, you have radial tires, either all season or steel belted, and once punctured radial tires are very hard to seal, very hard. I would advise a new tire rather than all 4 new chrome rims.

take the car to a suspension specialist shop and have the rear wheels aligned first
have the suspension checked for worn mounts or bad springs
it is very important that the rear end is aligned before the front end
suspect that the suspension rubbers need replacing as it is over 6 years old
the tyre rotation is a myth perpetrated on drivers to sell tyres
when the tyre construction was cross-ply and not radials yes rotation then on cross-ply tyres could get the wear to even out but with radials once the wear is started then the tyre continually wears in that pattern regardless of which wheel it is on
even if you take that tyre of the car and put it on a trailer , it will still continue to wear in that pattern
tyres are no longer rotated but simply put front to back on the same side other wise the belts flex in a new direction in the tread and fail earlier that expected
besides that fact that tyre rotation will not allow you to monitor for suspension problems or wheel alignment problems and cost you 4 tyres at a time instead of two

This problem is about our new Bridgeton tires (275 60 19) on the front of our 2000 Lexus SUV (LX 470). After about 500 miles the right front tire is showing unusual wear on outside edge of tread. At time...


wear to the outside of the tyre could indicate to a tyre specialist that the car recieves some serious cornering g-forces. but if this SUV is driven carefully then that should not have happened. when driving down a straight flat road let go of the steering wheel for just a second (make sure the roads empty first) and see if the car wants to lean to the right. it could mean you may have a wheel alignment issue. wear the the outside can also be possible if you are running your tyres on low pressure for extended periods of time (also does not sound likely if maintained) but if that is so you should see wear on the inside . there is also simply the fact that that tyre may be a bad batch from the factory in which case the tyre fitter will exchange it under warranty if he thinks that is the case. but my money is in the wheels alignment.

Need to remove heater A/C dash control , what is proper procedure?


Look at fig. 4 for the heater a/c dash control: HEATER CORE Altima REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION
  1. Position the steering wheel in the straight-ahead position.
  2. Turn the ignition switch OFF.
  3. Disconnect the negative (() battery cable; then, the positive (+) battery cable. NOTE: Wait for a least 3 minutes after disconnecting the battery cables for the charge in the air bag circuit to dissipate before working on the air bag module(s).
  4. Remove the driver's side SRS and steering wheel by removing or disconnecting the following:
    • Lower lid from the steering wheel and disconnect the driver's air bag module connector
    • Left and right side lids from the steering wheel
    • Special bolts from both side of the steering wheel using a tamper resistant Torx wrench (T50)
    • Air bag module and store it face up
    • Horn's electrical connector and remove the steering wheel nut
    • Steering wheel from the steering column using a suitable puller
  5. Remove the passenger's side SRS by removing or disconnecting the following:
    • Glove box door and the glove box
    • Front passenger's air bag module connector
    • 2 special bolts using a tamper resistant Torx wrench (T50)
    • 4 passenger's air bag-to-instrument panel nuts
    • Front passenger's air bag module and store it face up.
  6. Drain the cooling system into a clean container for reuse.
  7. Discharge and recover the air conditioning system refrigerant.
  8. Working in the engine compartment, disconnect the heater hoses from the heater core tubes.
  9. Remove the instrument panel by removing or disconnecting the following:
    • Kick plate and dash side finisher on the driver's side
    • 2 lower panel-to-instrument panel screws and the lower panel on the driver's side
    • 2 lower reinforcement panel-to-instrument panel screws and the lower reinforcement panel
    • 6 steering column cover screws, the covers, the spiral cable and combination switch
    • 2 cluster lid "A" screws and the cluster lid "A"
    • 3 combination meter screws, disconnect the electrical harness connector and remove the combination meter
    • Switch panel
    • Instrument panel lower covers
    • Snap out the transmission shifter finisher (boot)
    • 4 cluster lid "C" screws and the cluster lid "C"
    • 4 audio and deck pocket-to-instrument panel screws and the audio and deck pocket
    • 5 center console screws and the center console
    • 2 center instrument panel screws and the center panel
    • front defroster grilles
    • Front pillar garnish
    • Instrument panel 3 nuts/4 screws and the instrument panel
    • 8 instrument stay assembly nuts and the stay
    • Steering member assembly 5 nuts/1 bolt and the steering member
  10. Remove the air conditioning housing assembly by removing or disconnecting the following:
    • Refrigerant lines from the air conditioning housing assembly
    • Thermo control amp
    • Air conditioning housing assembly
  11. Remove or disconnect the following:
    • Heater unit
    • Heater core from the heater unit Fig. 1: Exploded view of the steering wheel and air bag module 93112gd9.gif

    To install:
  12. Install or connect the following:
    • Heater core to the heater unit
    • Heater unit
  13. Install the air conditioning housing assembly by installing or connecting the following:
    • Air conditioning housing assembly
    • Thermo control amp
    • Refrigerant lines to the air conditioning housing assembly
  14. Install the instrument panel by installing or connecting the following:
    • Steering member assembly and the steering member 5 nuts/1 bolt
    • Instrument stay assembly and the 8 stay nuts
    • Instrument panel and the instrument panel 3 nuts/4 screws
    • Front pillar garnish
    • Front defroster grilles
    • Center instrument panel and the 2 center panel screws
    • Center console and the 5 center console screws
    • Audio and deck pocket and the 4 audio and deck pocket-to-instrument panel screws
    • Cluster lid "C" and the 4 cluster lid "C" screws
    • Snap in the transmission shifter finisher (boot)
    • Instrument panel lower covers
    • Switch panel
    • Combination meter, connect the electrical harness connector and install the 3 combination meter screws
    • Cluster lid "A" and the 2 cluster lid "A" screw
    • Combination switch, the spiral cable, the covers and the 6 steering column cover screws
    • Lower reinforcement panel and the 2 lower reinforcement panel-to-instrument panel screws
    • Lower panel and the 2 lower panel-to-instrument panel screws, on the driver's side
    • Kick plate and dash side finisher, on the driver's side
  15. Working in the engine compartment, connect the heater hoses to the heater core tubes.
  16. Install the passenger's side SRS by installing or connecting the following:
    • Front passenger's air bag module
    • 4 passenger's air bag-to-instrument panel nuts
    • 2 new special bolts and torque using a tamper resistant Torx wrench (T50) to 11-18 ft. lbs. (15-25 Nm)
    • Front passenger's air bag module connector
    • Glove box door and the glove box
  17. Install the driver's side SRS and steering wheel by installing or connecting the following:
    • Steering wheel to the steering column
    • Steering wheel nut and torque the nut to 22-29 ft. lbs.
    • Horn's electrical connector
    • Air bag module
    • New special bolts to both sides of the steering wheel and torque the bolts using a tamper resistant Torx wrench (T50) to 11-18 ft. lbs. (15-25 Nm).
    • Both the left and right side lids to the steering wheel
    • Lower lid to the steering wheel and connect the driver's air bag module connector
  18. Refill the cooling system.
  19. Connect the positive (+) battery cable; then, the negative (() battery cable.
  20. Evacuate, charge and leak test the air conditioning system refrigerant.
  21. Operate the engine to normal operating temperatures; then, check the climate control operation and check for leaks.

My 2008 ultima tires will leak air to the extent they are almost completely flat. It started with the passenger side rear almost completely flat. I would fill with air and it will last for 2-5 days. Now...


Your tyres need checking for slow punctures or leaking valves. If you want to do it yourself. You'll need a tub or pool big enough for a complete wheel. Fill it with water, then, remove one wheel at a time and put it in the tub/pool. look for bubbles, the puncture is where the bubble come from.

Of course you could go to a tyre shop and get them to check, once done and you know your tyres are in good order, the only other thought is that it may be someone having fun at your expense, you could get some lockable valve caps.

Replacing the alternator

REMOVAL & INSTALLATION

(2.2L Engine)
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Raise and support the front of the vehicle, then remove the passenger side tire and wheel assembly for access to the rear of the alternator through the wheel well.
  3. Working through the wheel well, unfasten the alternator brace-to-block bolt, then remove the brace-to-intake nut and the brace-to-engine stud nut.
  4. Unplug the alternator wiring connector, then remove the battery terminal nut and wire.
  5. Carefully release the serpentine belt tension and remove the belt from the alternator pulley. Do not allow the tensioner to snap back into position once the belt is off the pulley.
  6. Loosen the alternator retaining bolts, then support the alternator and remove the fasteners. Remove the alternator from the vehicle.

To install:
  1. Position the alternator in the vehicle and loosely install the retaining bolts.
  2. On 1994-98 models, tighten the top alternator bolt to 22 ft. lbs. (30 Nm) and the bottom bolt to 32 ft. lbs. (43 Nm).
  3. On 1999-99 models, tighten the rear bolt to 37 ft. lbs. (50 Nm) and the front bolt to 18 ft. lbs. (25 Nm).
  4. On 1994-98 models, install the alternator brace, then tighten the retaining nut(s) and bolts to 22 ft. lbs. (30 Nm).
  5. On 1999-99 models, install the alternator brace, tighten the brace-to-alternator and brace-to-intake retainers to 18 ft. lbs. (25 Nm). Tighten the brace-to-engine stud nut to 37 ft. lbs. (50 Nm).
  6. Install the battery terminal wire and tighten the retaining nut, then engage the alternator wiring connector.
  7. Hold the serpentine drive belt tensioner, back off the belt while slipping the belt over the alternator pulley. Gradually lower the tensioner into contact with the belt, then check for proper alignment and tension.
  8. Connect the negative battery cable.

REMOVAL & INSTALLATION
(Except 2.2L Engine)
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Remove the air inlet duct assembly, if necessary.
  3. Carefully relieve the serpentine drive belt tension, then remove the belt from the alternator pulley. Do not allow the tensioner to snap back into position once the belt is off the pulley.
  4. Remove the nut retaining the radiator hose brace to the back on the alternator.
  5. If equipped, unfasten the retainers, then remove the brace from the engine and/or the alternator.
  6. Disconnect the battery terminal boot wiring from the back of the alternator, then unplug the regulator wiring connector.
  7. Support the alternator and remove the mounting bolts (usually 2) from either side of the alternator, then remove the alternator from the vehicle.
To install:
  1. Position the alternator in the vehicle and loosely install using the mounting bolts.
  2. If equipped, loosely install the brace to the engine and/or alternator.
  3. Tighten the left or front alternator retaining bolts to 36 ft. lbs. (50 Nm), the right or rear alternator bolt to 18 ft. lbs. (25 Nm), the brace bolt to 18 ft. lbs. (25 Nm) and/or the brace nut to 22 ft. lbs. (30 Nm), as applicable.
  4. Connect and secure the alternator wiring.
  5. Carefully relieve the serpentine drive belt tension and position the belt over the alternator pulley, then slowly release the tensioner into position.
  6. If equipped, install the air inlet duct assembly.
  7. Connect the negative battery cable.

havent a clue offhand without a drive ,check tyres for deformity and make sure you have two tyres the make on the same axle and the same tread pattern,
