This sound may be related to low brake pads, it sounds like the low pad indicator is hitting the rotr due to low brakes.

It sounds to me like your brakes are at the wear limit and a metal tab that is built into the pad rubs the rotor to make the driver aware that he needs brake service(new pads). Other possibility is a wheel bearing going out: jack up car and turn wheel slowly to feel if the motion is smooth or rough and noisy, do not confuse with brake drag or noise

SOURCE: Weird noises in drive and reverse

The high pitched whine in reverse sounds normal for a honda. Ever honda I have had makes a similar noise while in reverse. The spinning, scraping noise in drive is not normal. You might want to see a mechanic about that.

SOURCE: rear end vibrates when brakes are applied while driving

Once you remove the rear drums u have to adjust the brakes with a screwdriver there's like a cowboy spur on it that has to be turned, unless u took it apart then you should assemble the same way u tookit off or use the other side as an example.

Brakes make a whistle noise when applied and sometimes a low grown or grinding when coming to a slow stop or start.

A grinding or rumbling noise can also be symptoms of a wheel bearing or constant velocity joint in a driveshaft. A worn wheel bearing can also cause a 'whistling' sound (as can a worn CV joint).

A grinding noise with brakes is either worn pads causing metal to metal contact on the brake disk/rotor, or the brake backing plate catching on a spinning rotor ... or a loose/missing anti squeal brake shim (they stop the pads from rattling and vibrating).

However, as you say a mechanic has looked at the brakes and can't find anything wrong .. I think I would begin to suspect a wheel bearing or constant velocity joint on the driveshaft (front wheel drive cars).

Squeaking and grinding noise when I apply the brakes

Try replacing or resurfacing your rotors and brake hardware. Using brake pads similar to the oem will also help stop any problems.

Brake switch is designed to shut cruise off when brake pedal applied, sounds like a defective brake switch, because when she applied the brakes it's supposed to cut power to cruise module, so either that is problem or your throttle cable had iced up and or both

Brake problem on chevy cavlier

How is the brake fluid level in the master cylinder? If it's low, the brake light will come on. The right rear wheel and drum need to be removed to inspect the brakes and see what is going on. Your description sounds like there may be some brake hardware floating around inside the drum. Let me know what u find. Curt
