Question about 1999 Cadillac DeVille

My car goes to temps up to 220 on streets before it begins to drop to 192 is there a problem.

Lots of these caddys with the northstar run alittle warm, just make sure the fans are coming on and maybe try a 180 degree thermostat, if the fans work and it doesnt go any higher than i wouldnt worry about it,

No i dont think so ,nothing much unless you put a lower temp setting thermostat in like a 82?c ,if it runs ok leave well alone and dont listen to bar room mechanics

Thermostat temp guage goes to 220 degrees


220 degrees is normal operaing temperature for your car. The thermostat does not open until 195 degrees and the fans don't come on until 126 to 128 degrees. If it gets over 129 degrees and the fans have not turned on then the cooling fan system is the cause of the problem. (cooling fan, cooling fan temp switch, cooling fan relay, etc.)

Temp gauge normally runs at just below 220 now some times it moves to 160 -165 then back to 220 replace temp gauge sensor could it be the thurmostat


more likeley the thermostat(when faulty it opens to max flow...)hence drop in temp/increase in fuel consumption..

I would check o2 sensors but to tell you the truth my dad bought a new thermostat that was suppose to open at 160 degrees his temp. got to 220 degrees before but check o2 senors and thermostat

have the water pump checked out to make sure its working right. if its not it wont allow for the water to circulate through the system,
