Question about 2004 Volkswagen Golf

I have a Volkswagen Golf 07 - when i started the car the other day a red spanner showed with 8400 just under the km space.Anyone know what this means - spanner only there for 2 sec's when i started engine.?

Its telling you how many miles to next service and its encrypted software only a dealer can remove it

The "INSP" message becomes flashing on the dash after 15000 km or after 1 year, depending which one occuring first. Therefore it's very probable that one year had passed, or 15000 km. Service due!

1. Turn the ignition OFF.
2. Press and hold the reset button [1] (see the above picture).
3. Turn the ignition ON.
4. "SERVICE" appears on the display.
5. Release the button [1].
6. Turn the button to the right.
7. The service indicator shows: "---".
8. Turn the ignition OFF.
9. The system is reset.

Hey, Just recently bought a 2001 Petrol Golf gti that'd done 99,000kms and hadnt had the timing belt done. I'm currently on 101,000... I know it is probably not recommended I drive anymore, but...


Volkswagen recommends only to check the timing belt & tensioner first time at 90,000 km, then every 30,000 km. Renew as necessary.
CAUTION: The most important fact is that the car is 10 years old. Do NOT drive the car without timing kit renewal !!!

My 92 golf decided to die two days after I bought it, it will spin over and trys to start but never does. I have replaced and checked all that I know to check. Can anyone solve my 17 month problem?...


What exactly have you checked? Fuel, spark? It sounds like maybe a fuel filter or a bad timing belt which has slipped? Is this a CIS fuel injected model?

Describe your 1985 volkswagen golf odometer problem. The odometer sticks on the red .9 of a km.


sound like a broken drive gear on the odomiter
call local scrap car guy and check the price there somtimes you can get an odomiter with similar or even lower millage on it and if you call the dealer thay can tell you from what year to what year will fit in your dash properly
remember new is nice but used is just as nice and usualy half the price

it usually means that your car is due for a service etc. and this will be reset by the mechanic

What dose the mfa button show


The MFA stands for in German "Multifunktionsanzeige" or Multi-Function Computer; which in a nutshell gives you information about the Temperature, Average Fuel-economy (changes with driving style), km's remaining with your current level of gas, and I am not sure if the Golf IV's show "real time fuel consumption" and I believe that on the Golf V's is also shows the Radio station. The buttons on the tip of the wiper control allow you switch through the various settings. Depending on the country the fuel economy will be shown in either l/100km or MPG. Hope this helps, if you have the cars manual then it should all be explained there.

1991 vw golf gti- RPM stop working!


judging by the amount of km it has done i would say the rpm drive is faulty, this measures the amount of rotation in the camshaft and shows the "revolutions per minute". when this goes faulty it stops the read out on the dial, so you want to be looking for a device that measures the speed that the engine is turning, if you have, replace it and it should solve the problem
