Probably the relay then. relays are usually in the engine compartment relay box. You should have 2 of them--high and low. There is also a 60 amp fusible link to check (see diagram below). Recommend you interrogate the relay socket with the engine running and hot to make sure the PCM is trying to turn the fan on. If you can't find the relay, please get back to me.

Please see my tip at http://www.fixya.com/cars/r6022358-relay_check for instructions on interrogating the relay socket.

My 2002 chevy tahoe cooling fan doesn't go on. I

There is a sensor that the fan is connected to that is plugged into the engine block that senses the temperature. Maybe the wire is broken. Trace all the wires from the fan to wherever they are connected and find the one that is not attached or cracked or shorting. That sensor may also be bad.

How do i stop my car from overheating?

it can be several reasons for your overheating we`ll start with the basics as you don`t say what you have tried yet.it could be the thermostat stuck shut which will require replacement,it could be that your cooling system is low very low on coolant and that there is a leak in the system, either the radiator, water pump, frost plug,or a head gasket is bad and causing the overheating, the cooling system will need to pressure tested and checked for leaks and damaged components replaced and the thermostat should be changed at the same time,it can also be a bad temperature sensor, also the cooling fan or fans may not be working either by a bad connection or a bad cooling fan motor, this can be checked by hooking up a tool that communicates with the on board computer and the cooling fans can be commanded to operate,if they don`t then while they are commanded you can tap on the cooling fans to see if they will start to work or if they are seized or you can hook up two jumper wires one ground and one positive and directly feed the motor from the battery to see if it will start working.and you thought fixing cars were easy, lol

Cooling system fan wont start

First make sure all the cooling fan fuses and relays are good and the cooling fan itself is good..to test the fan, you will need to remove the connector from the fan and hook up the fan directly to the battery if it comes on then the next thing if that don't work is to have the temperature sensor checked(there may be two on the engine(one for cooling fan and one for eng temp gauge)). Aside from these..if all else fails, check all of the wiring to make sure there are no breaks..etc..

Cooling fan not working, overheating

Replace the cooling fan relay switch. On the engine Coolant temperature Sensor make sure the sensor wire is still pluged into sensor and there is no damage to the wire in that area. If the wiring looks OK and was still pluged in then replace the Sensor. If you have allready figured out that the relay and the temperature sensor are OK. Key Off, then unplug the Cooling fan (near the fan) from the engine wirring harness.Run two wires from the fan plug directly to the battery, place one wire to one post the other wire to the other post. If the fan comes on then it is Ok if it does not come on then replace the Fan. Good Luck and have a good XMASS.

The cooling fans on a 1997 pontiac grand prix gt are not working

This could be the fans not working or a bad temperature sensor. If you direct wire (hotwire) the fans and they operate then the problem is very likely your temperature sensor. The temperature sensor is usually located on or near the thermostat housing. I hope this helps.

My fans that cool the engine do not come on. The car seem to cool down when driving but the temperature goes up when I am sitting still. The check engine light is on steady.

Hi!

The first thing you're going to want to do is get that trouble code read. Some auto parts stores do it for free or you can buy a code scanner. Likely culprit is going to be the cooling fan itself, the relay, fuse, or the wiring/connectors leading to/from the fan and PCM. It could also be caused by a failed coolant temperature sensor.

So get that code read and start some diagnostics. I would suggest you start by checking fuses, relay, wiring. Then use a digital volt meter to see if the fan is getting 12 volts. Then try hooking the fans up directly to the battery to see if they work.

If you need more help, just let me know. Good luck!
