Question about 1997 Buick Riviera

Open Question

Hello, I have a 1995 Buick Riviera w/3.8 ltr supercharged VIN 1. I replaced the old alternator for being noisy-bearing worn. I went to Autozone and got a replacement alternator. the alternator is not charging, 11.9-12.0 volts running. took alternator back to Autozone they checked and they tested the alternator and said it passed. Put it back on and still not charging. Checked Voltage to Battery terminal on alternator-o.k. has battery voltage. Checked voltage at regulator S terminal (Lt Blue-Ckt 725)-o.k. has battery voltage. Checked resistance at regulator terminal L (Red-Ckt 225) to PCM B4-Good resistance. I do not see any problem but alternator will still not charge. the alternator I purchased from Autozone was half the price of anyone else(Gm,Napa,Carquest) I'm not sure if it just has poor quality parts or am I missing something? thanks for any help you can provide.

SOURCE: Hello, I have a 1995

Use a jumper to connect the positive terminal of the battery to the terminal L input of the alternator. That will give 12V to the exciter circuit of the voltage regulator and turn on the alternator so that it can begin charging. If that makes a difference, there must be something wrong with the input to terminal L.

Can i still drive a 95 buick riviera with a bad supercharger

if your supercharger sounds like tumbling rocks, it is the plastic coupler between the nose cone and the charger body; take off your serpentine belt; chances are the pulley has some play in it but it turns freely; the replacement coupler is a cheap fix; what gets a lil pricey is the labor to replace it... the buick has an alternator bracket that has to come off before you can take the nose off of the supercharger... dont forget to drain the oil from the nose cone with a spray bottle nozzle

Noise coming from turbocharger

1995 riviera is not turbocharged; it is supercharged--big diff; if the noise sounds like rocks tumbling, then you need to replace the plastic coupler in the supercharger; part is cheap -;labor is a lil high; it is a pain because you have to remove the alternator bracket on the buick version of the 3.8

Can the bearing on the supercharger be changed sperate?

You can replace the nose with bearing. If its making a clunking sound you will need the whole unit. Check out some of the people that rebuild these for more info.

Supercharger

Yes, you can replace the pulley. Keep in mind, look at the other surrounding parts and replace any that may seem warn as you are taking the assembly apart make sure you won't have to do the job twice if other parts look like they are worn.
