does the upper and lower hoses seem to be the same temp when car begins to overheat? ore the radiator cooling fans coming on before the car overheats? did you pressure test the cooling system and radiator cap? also may want to remove the lower hose and flush the radiator. is the check engine light on and does it run bad?
A large part of a radiator's function is made possible by the
upper and lower radiator hoses. The upper radiator hose controls the
flow of engine coolant from the radiator into the car engine. In a cold engine, engine coolant
is stored inside the radiator. The engine coolant is held inside the
radiator until the engine becomes hot enough to warrant engine coolant
circulation. When an engine reaches operating temperature, the
thermostat valve, which is located at the far end of the upper radiator
hose, opens up and allows engine coolant to flow from the radiator into
the engine.
you should have one upper radiator hose, one lower radiator hose, a small diameter hose that runs over the top of your radiator starting from the radiator cap going left across the top and then to your coolant reservoir and another from your thermostat housing to the firewall for the heater core the upper radiator hose should also go to your thermostat housing. the lower radiator hose goes to your water pump This hose routing is only for a 4 liter straight 6 I'm not sure about the V8 or the 2.5 liter motors
Follow your upper radiator hose from your radiator to where it goes to the top of your motor. It should be located right under the housing where the hose connects. Should be two bolts I believe on the housing.
If you changed the thermostat yourself and have noted that the lower radiator hose is cooler than the upper radiator hose, you may have installed the thermostat incorrectly or have purchased a faulty thermostat. A lower radiator hose that does not get hot (or as hot as the upper radiator hose) is a direct indication of a faulty thermostat. Please vote for this solution if you found this to be helpful. The thermostat on V6 engines is under the thermostat housing at the engine side of the top radiator hose. The thermostat on V8 models is found by tracing the bottom radiator hose back to the thermostat housing on the engine. The housing, thermostat, and O-ring on the V8 models is built as an assembly and will have to be replaced as such.
Follow the UPPER Radiator Hose to the Motor. The Belt will Attach to a Bell Housing, Remove the Hose and Bell housing. The Thermostat is Underneath the Bell Housing. Please Rate My Response! Thanks!
run it and let it get hot (not to the point of overheating just let it warm up to normal or slightly above normal). put your hand near the upper radiator hose, if you feel not heat, touch it, be careful as it may be hot. if it is not hot at all but the engine is warmed up it is the thermostat, the thermostat is located where the upper radiator hose connects to the motor, usually a 2bolt metal fitting, if this is the case just replace the thermostat.
