Question about 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee

1 Answer

AC not cooling on my 2000 Grand Cherokee Limited. Filling on freon makes it cool for a couple of days. According to workshop, tubes are ok, but the vaporizer is defect and needs to be changed. Does that sound likely? If so, how do you change the vaporizer and which part number does it have?

The EVAP core (vaporizer as you refer to it) is located in the HVAC housing. The entire dash will need to be removed in order to remove and disassemble the HVAC housing. This is a huge job and will require an entire weekend (8-16 hours) for the average do it yourselfer.

Jeep is not cooling. I may be out of freon. How long does freon last in a jeep grand cherokee limited 6 cylinder?

you should never have to recharge the freon, like you refridgerator its a sealed unit, if you are out of freon you have a leak and it takes the right equipment to find it

That is well expected to take longer to cool if your in a very hot climate. Also the man made freon does take longer to cool than the old outlaw freon did

Cooling system

All the parts that you mentioned are the correct parts that you need to check if there's a problem with the cooling system in your jeep. It's just that you missed to check two (2) things:

1. Freon
2. Leak

If there's a leak in the copper tube, your car will run out of freon. If the freon is low, then the jeep will not get cool.

Contact an A/C tech to check if there's a leak, fix it and recharge your jeep with freon.

Have a great day!

Air conditioner only works while moving. The AC stops cooling when stopped and idleing. Anyone know what causes this?

Your freon level is low, and not circulating on slow compressor speeds. Stop by any shop that has a sign stating they work on a/c and they can recharge it for you in a few minutes. Here where I live they charge about $20.00 labor plus a charge for the freon they put in, they sell it by the pound.

I don't know of any real proceedure, Just make sure its full and there is no air traped in the system, If there are any bleeders like around the thermostat housing, or any where in the cooling system open them up while you fill it to let any air to excape If not just fill radiator untill your sure you can't get any more in it before you start it.
