Question about 2003 Ford Expedition

1 Answer

My 03 ford expedition is running lean. The codes I pulled were p2195 and p2197 . It gave me a list of what could be wrong. How do I narrow down the list? It runs fine until I am at a stop idling, it revs kind of jumps forward a few times then stalls out.

You have to check everything on the list.

You have an O2 Sensor, trying to correct for a rich condition.

I don't have an hour, to type everything, from the Powertrain Control/Emissions Diagnosis Manual.

That doesn't mean you really have a rich condition, the O2 Sensor just thinks you do.
You need to work the list for the 2195,not the 2197

Most issues are due to vacuum leaks, including the ducting from air filter to throttle

Changed both o2 sensors still rough idle and codes p2195 and p2197 still there

P2195 & 97 is a lean condition reported by both O2
on right side

The pcm drove the fuel trim lean to correct for a over
rich condition on right bank only due to a leaking fuel
injector most likely

That is a common problem on an expedition with 5.4

I have seen people find & replace the bad injector
I would mail all of them away to be ultra-sonicly cleaned
& flow tested if it were mine

If you have a professional scan tool or software you woulod
see the issue on fuel trim.

The MAF is common to both banks & you only have an issue
on the right side so the MAF is okey

Your plugs should give some indication of the bad injector
if that is the case

Need details on brakes!!

P2197 p2187 p2177 p2195 p2179 p2189

P2197 - Oxygen Sensor Signal Biased/Stuck Lean Bank 2 Sensor 1
P2187 - System Too Lean At Idle Bank 1
P2177 - System Too Lean Off Idle Bank 1
P2195 - Oxygen Sensor Signal Biased/Stuck Lean Bank 1 Sensor 1
P2179 - System Too Lean Off Idle Bank 2

I am not sure what your Mazda is, but from the sounds of it, both of your Oxygen Sensors are shot. Replace them both, or check for vacuum leaks. It may be a good time to inspect and replace the PCV Valve and PCV Valve hose, too.

P2195 and p2197 are the 2 codes that pop up what are they and what do i need to change? mazdz mpv 2005 3.0 li

P2195 and P2197 means that the O2 sensors on each bank are seeing WAY too much oxygen in the exhaust gas. In normal operation the signal from the O2 sensors should swing back and forth between rich and lean... Your sensors are locked on lean. Replace both O2 sensor.

Hope helps (remember rated this).

I have a 2003 Ford Expedition XLT 4.6L 2WD Auto used an OMDII scanner to diagnose problems. The DTC's that came up were the following: P2195 (Sensor Stuck Lean), P2197 (Sensor Stuck Lean), P0171 (System to...

Sounds to me like you have an intake gasket or a vac line leaking. Get a can of brake cleaner or starting fluid (brake cleaner is preferred) and spray it around the engine with it running at idle and listen for the engine to rev up. if you spray is near the intake and it revs up, time for new gaskets. If you spray it away from the intake, near a line or something, and it revs, start looking around there for a broken line. if you fined one, it can be easily repaired with a 2 inch section of rubber tubing about the same diameter. just slip the line into the tubing and it should work just fine.
