Junk in fuel tank, injectors probably got a little resticted. How bad was the gas? hook a hose to the fuel rail and bleed most of the bad stuff out of the system turning key to on position to activate fuel pump. The pump has a screen on it in tank but thats alot of work to get to. A little injector cleaner or octane booster would be an advantage in the tank

My 96 century with a 3.1 v-6 gave me fits for years shooting a 171 code(running too lean) I wound up changing the fuel filter and the problem went away. If it's been a while since the filter was changed, try it.

have you replaced the cam sensor? They are only about $30 at auto parts store and easy to replace. They can show you where it is located on the engine. I was having a problem like you on my 2003 ford and that was the problem.

dirty fuel fiter, yes. But also certain models require mid or premium grade gasoline. regular unleaded has more water in it than premium. Hense the pinging. When was the last time you have your fuel injectors cleaned. Try adding a gas treatment like STP gas treatment/fuel injector cleaner, that should help. If it continues then its the fuel filter or the fuel pump is also going out.

97 buick century sputtering and stalling

He has gotten a bad load of fuel. Try a can of dry gas to emulsify the water, but if there is too much for the dry gas to handle, the tank may have to be cleaned. I would also replace the fuel filter also, the gas may also be dirty enough to restrict the filter.

96 Buick Century stalls....

I spent endless time on this same problem on my 1992 Wagon. I changed out the computer but no help. It turned out to be the top dead center crank sensor that tells the system when the crank passes TDC. It is a small magnet essentially about the siz of a pencil eraser in the flywheel. it was cracked and occasionally would not "sense" and the car would just quit. troubleshooting was a nightmare because the computer diagnostics on the 1992 are less capable than the 1996 model. Anyway that is a relatively inexpensive fix and easy to know if it worked. Let me know how you solve this.

1987 Buick Century - stalling out

I had a 1987 Century and when mine started acting like that I took it to a garage and they hooked it up to a computer tester for free. Is she getting the check engine light coming on? They found that mine was running (lean) which ended up being my fuel pump. Which is in the gas tank and can be pricey to get done, between $250-$350 and of course the filter would get done at the same time and that is only$20
