SOURCE: can i buy a fuel strainer for my 2006 mazda 6 fuel

It's called an in-line fuel filter. You'll have to pick a "safe place" to install it away from "ANY" heat of the engine or exhaust lines. The old ones were glass and really nice. Easy to see if they were clogged. Now they're all plastic and throw-away from what I've seen. Better to see if you have stuff in your line by pumping a pint out into a glass jar and looking for residue or debris. If you have some, the line will still clog up fast, plus you'll need to replace (or clean) your old filter. This doesn't "STOP" a problem. If it's contaminated, you need to clean out your gas tank and THAT's DANGEROUS! Been there, watched one blow up! If it's rust- replace the tank OR car. If it's OLD gas, then you can possibly put in a product that "renews" the gas. Then use a fuel cleaner for awhile to cut the varnish out of your system. VERY time-consuming and may not work.

Auto repair shop states that fule pump needs

If that problem with the gas guage is bothering you badly enough, then you will have to replace the fuel pump. The repair shop is on the up and up. The fuel level sending unit on the Mazda 6 is an integral part of the fuel pump assembly and is monitored by the computer. If the sending unit is defective then the entire pump assembly must be replaced, since the pump cannot be disassembled. Sorry about that, but I sure hope this helped ya!
