Need to replace the oxygen sensor and reset computer - where is it located and how do I do it? Is there a diagram to see the "hot to"?

The O2 sensor is located on the exhaust. It is normally located on the upper part of the exhaust manifold just after all 4 pipes come together or under the drivers side at the catalytic converter. It will be the only item with 3 to 4 wires running to it on the exhaust. It a simple repair. When you pick up the new Sensor pick up the special tool that is needed to remove and install it. The special tool is either a socket with a slot cut in it to allow the wires to be moved out of the way or an open end wrench with a slot in it. After you remove the old sensor clean the area and put anti-seize on the threads of the new sensor, make sure you use this compound it is usually included with the sensor, put the new sensor in place and tighten down, connect the wires. Move to the battery and if you didn't disconnect the Negative terminal before you started remove it now and wait 1 min, reconnect it and start the vehicle. This should clear any stored codes and reset the computer to accept the new sensor.

Fig. ECT sensor location-3.7L, 4.7L engines.

icn_arrow.gifBack to Top Inspect/Test/Replace Because ECT (engine coolant temperature) sensor procedures vary depending upon their location, first locate the part. You may need to partially drain the engine coolant to prevent coolant spillage.

  • Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  • Unplug the ECT.
  • Then, unscrew it.
  • Reverse the removal procedures to install the new part.
  • Connect the negative battery cable to the battery.

How to replace oxygen sensors...where are they located

Follow the exhaust pipe from the manifold and you will find your sensors sticking out at 90 degs from the pipe, follow the wire and disconnect from the terminal. you will need a ring spanner or special socket normally about a 22mm ( varies from sensors to sensor ) and unscrew anti clockwise, then just fit new in reverse order

Install heated oxygen sensor number 1 in volswagen jetta

Hi:
The Number 1 Heated Oxygen sensor is located in front of the catalytic converter. You would need to get the car up in the air, and then disconnect the electrical connector, and possibly need a special socket to remove the sensor. Also remember to purchase and use Oxygen sensor safe anti sieze compound on the threads of the new sensor, if you do this your self

Knock sensor needs replacement. Is this a DIY, or do I need a mechanic?

To replace it is very very hard due to its location. BUT... it is quite simple to take care of if you understand what a knock sensor is. It is just a sound detector. It listens to the engine and if it hears detonation, then it signals. So you need a sensor that works, but if it hears nothing who cares?
Thus, fixing the problem (you have a code) is easy. Buy a new knock sensor. Mount it to the body of the car anywhere that is grounded. Like the sheet metal above the engine manifold. Now reroute the wires that run to the old sensor to this new sensor. Leave the old sensor (now disconnected) where it is. You will need to get the manual (ebay) to locate the wires. Oh - the white wires turn yellow with time. That yellow wire is white.
The new sensor operates perfectly, but it never hears anything. Problem solved.
