1 Answer

MY 1992 GRAND MARQUIS DASH LIGHTS, HEAD LIGHTS,TAIL LIGHTS,ETC. COME BACK ON AFTER SHUTTING THE CAR OFF. IT ALSO DOES NOT ALWAYS START, JUST TURNS OVER AS IF IT IS NOT GETTING ANY SPARK.OTHER DAYS IT WILL START UP AND RUN LIKE NEW. I HAVE TO DISCONNECT THE BATTERY EVERYDAY TO KEEP THE BATTERY FROM GOING DEAD.AT PRESENT I SOMETIMES HAVE TO RUN A HOTWIRE TO USE THE CAR. THE CAR IS VERY CLEAN WITH ONLY 95K ON IT, I HATE TO JUNK IT OUT BECAUSE OF THIS PROBLEM. THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME! DAVE ROBERTS

Hi,

Perform a simple test. Drive your vehicle and do an emergency stop ,check if the abs works. If it does there's no problem that requires bleeding. bleeding is only done if there is air in the system or if you are changing any part that would require you to disconnect a hose or a line. you may have a pressure problem or simply a bad sending unit. To find air in the system just put pressure on the brake pedal if slowly goes down to the floor then you know you need to bleed the system.

Dash lights and tail lights don't work

Lights and electrical circuits are sometimes in pairs so that you notice something is wrong (tail lights and dash). On a '90 merc grand marq., that would be fuse #4,the 15 amp blue one, in the panel next to your left foot. If you are lucky,it
just failed from age. If you are not lucky, there is a short in the system containing
the dash, tail, parking, side marker, license lamps and trailer tow relay if equiped.I had to replace the push/pull main light switch which was shorted. If you are lucky, just replacing the fuse in the panel will do it. Referance Grand Marquis Owners Manual for fuses and function.

Dash lights wont work 1992 grand marquis

Sounds to me that you may need to replace the light switch on the dash. Sometimes the switch will work all of the lights once you get it in the sweet spot but i wouldnt suggest running it like that for long. It will cause shorts and start melting the plastic and could cause a in dash fire. The part is rather inexpencive( i just replaced mine for this problem but it affected the tail lights as well) and easy to install. Just make sure that all of the connections are tight and you should be set to go.

Have no tail lights for my 1992 grand marquis

Look for the easy things first. Could be one bulb was burned out and then the other burned out. Check the bulbs. If that doesn help look at the fuse block, probably under the dash on the driver side. If the fuse is the problem and if it blows when you put in a new one. look in the trunk at the tail light wires to see if they have been damaged or have come loose from the bulb sockets and are causing a short that blows the fuse. Repair or replace bulb sockets and or wires. Good luck.
