Question about 1997 Isuzu Rodeo

1 Answer

My Rodeo charges when I run under 2000 RPM, over that and it stops charging and my lights go dim. I can drive it most anywhere during the daylight hours, but not when I need lights

I had two different alternator installed, both of them worked as they should until the lights were turned on

you have a short or corrosion in the light wiring creating an extreme draw on the alternator, I can't figure out what would draw more power at a higher RPM unless your running a supercharger with electric motors and the neighbors house..Ok not funny.. I'll add to this if I can think of anything else

My 1994 honda passport will not stay charged new altnator and new battery

is the engine running at 800 rpm or more.
if engine RPM is way low the Alternator will die out.
trans light , where is that? name it. exactly
lets focus first on the engine, and RPM
does the dash have a tachmeter, ? yes, then use that.
we keep a hand tachometer (optical , ready for no tach cars)
RPM is everything.... maxwells laws. and such.
1: rpm 800 or more all the time. rule 1, do not skip this.
2: belt to ALT not slipping'
3: battery good. terminals on battery cables tight both ends and
NOT PACKED in green corrosion, .
4: alternator case is grounded good.
5: The connection and ALT, all good.
6: you key on, and the dash charge light must turn on,
if not fix that now, on old cars, the dash light , causes the ALT to self excite, if the lamp burns out the alternator boots up DEAD.
or fails every other car starts. (does)
7: new alt is the wrong alt. zillion wrong ones, only 1 works.

I had a routine tire rotation and car alignment on yesterday. As I drove my car later in the evening, the vsc/ecm dash light came on, followed by the brake and battery light, radio and dash lamp lights...

Sounds like you lost the charge from the alternator.
When the alternator quits charging your battery light comes on and your car will run on battery power only...and only for a short time.
As the battery gets its stored energy used up...everything that is electrical will get slow or dim.

I'd check your alternator for proper operation and its drive belt...

Hope this helps...

Probably it is not just charging well.
Go to Autozone store and for free they will check the battery voltage and alternator current. Draining of battery during driving means the alternator not charging the battery back or alternator is not providing current which is less than car consumed and the additional current coming from battery. The common symptoms might be the dimming the lights, heater flow on idling or than rpm goes down.
Hope that helps
Good Luck
