SOURCE: how to set ignition timing on mk 1 golf

it is simple my dear Mr.Flemming. Before you remove the timing belt just be sure the car is working fine without any problem, remove the alternator belt and power steering belt, remove the timing cover and by hand hand using a socket and ratchet turn clockwise to align the marks on the crank shaft and camshaft ( if you have marks.) if not do practical point by removing the first spark plug and by putting in a thin screwdriver turn slowly slowly watching the screwdriver to come out showing the top end of piston and also check the camshaft to have the last piston valves to be on balance. there you can put at the end of the camshaft a bracket thick according to the camshaft end grove . doing so you lock the camshaft.Mark with paint the crank position on the timing belt side sprocket.then you loose the timing tensioner and remove the cam belt. check about the seals of crank shaft and camshaft not leaking if so renew them.renew the tensioner and the belt. tightening the belt on the tensioner there are two tiny holes by using a tool fitted in the holes go clockwise tightening checking with hand the belt tension just the belt could turn on side slightly- and tight the nut. If tension is correct, remove the bracket from the camshaft and do turn two times clockwise and check whether the marks are aligned. Good luck.

From a quick web search, code P0014 supposedly indicates a problem with the timing advance. I would check that the you have the base timing set correctly. The computer has to be in diagnostic mode when you check it, which requires putting a jumper across two wires at the diagnostic plug. Refer to a repair manual for directions on how to do this for your vehicle. The base timing should be 5 degrees before top dead center (BTDC) for cylinder 1 at sea level. Add 1 degree BTDC for each 1000 feet above sea level (if you're 3000 feet above sea level, base timing setting should be 8 degrees BTDC).

Volkswagen golf GTI 1994 2L automatic window wont work, how do I fix it? Also, I think timing belt should be renewed, how do I do it?

Do you mean the car is automatic or the window? (punctuation required :o) If by automatic window, you mean pull it up 2 clicks and it closes all the way, same for down then it probably needs resetting. Most manufactures have a self-set procedure which is as follows. with ignition on, hold the window button down for 20 seconds, then hold it up for 20 seconds then repeat the process 1 more time. This resets most brands of electric window.
Hope this helps.

My golf 4 1.6 1999 does not have power when moving up the slope.

At a higher elevation the timing must be reset as the air is thinner and the fuel mixture is not sufficient at your standard timing settings at sea level.

You could have a bad oil sensor or there may be a leak somewhere causing the pressure sensor to trip... if you give it some gas when the light is on. Does it go off??
