This may be due to many things, the first thing to do would be to scan computer for any stored codes but a scan tool would be needed. you can check for spark and see if fuel is getting to engine , also if you hold the gas pedal will car stay running, if it will then this may be due to a dirty throtlrbody or bad idle air control valve, these cars did have problems with the mass air flow sensors but this was the earlier ones, i would start with scanning it.

My 90oldssilhouette starts runs fine shut in off then it won't start i put the gas pedal all the way down then it starts

this sounds like the engine is getting too much fuel as when you push the gas pedal all the way to the floor you are putting the system in clear flood mode shutting off the injectors so as too not allow any more fuel and then it starts. its like what you would do if it was a carburetor and the engine was flooded.

it sounds like your car battery is very low or you are very low on gas. try jumpstarting your car or siphoning some gas into the gas tank.
hope this helps!

68 302 engine with a elect point conversion kit, engine when hot after shut off for about hour hard starting . have to pump gas befor it catches. it will start right away when hot if you restart it as...

Hi,
What you describe sounds like the fuel in the bowl of the carb is evaporating. A thing to check if you are able is the fuel pump. A pressure test on the fuel pump will determine if the diaphragm in the pump is able to hold pressure after the 302 is shut off. A hot carb will evaporate some fuel in the bowl after shutdown. the pressure of a good fuel pump will add fuel as necessary.
If the carb bowl is empty when trying to start it will take a few turns of the engine a a couple pumps of the gas pedal to get gas to the engine.
This is just a suggestion to try. Sort of test before you buy kind of thing.
Good luck and great engine.

Crank no start ,got fuel got spark, when trying to start spark plugs get wet ,changed plug pinched fuel line shut try srarting flud wont start???

You pinched the fuel line????
If you crank for too long to start the car, the engine will "flood", this is why the plug was wet. It had too much gas and wouldn't start.
Pull out ALL plugs and dry them off.
Install them.
HOLD your gas pedal to the floor and crank.
This will stop gas from entering the engine.
you need to get that extra gas out beofre it will start.
If you have so much gas in there you can do damage to your engine!!
Now after a few crnaking attempts with your foot to the floor, take your foot of the gas pedal and try to start it again.
But remember if it doesn't start in 3 tries, you need to do the pedal to the floor once or twice to remove the excess gas.
When you crank the car to start it sprays gas into the engine, even if it won't start. So it very easy to "flood" the engine, and then you'll have a hard time to get it going!
