Below is info from the owners manual. I do not have a repair manual, but you may be able to buy one that would say how to check the transmission fluid on the 3.5L. It sounds like they don't expect you will need to check it.

Fluid Level Check - Vehicles with 3.5L Engine

The automatic transaxle has no dipstick and is dealer

serviced only.

Fluid Level Check - Vehicles with 2.4L and 2.7L

Engines

Use the following procedure to check the automatic

transaxle fluid level properly:

1. Park the vehicle on level ground.

2. Run the engine at curb idle speed for a minimum of 60

seconds.

3. Apply the parking brake fully.

4. Place the shift lever momentarily in each gear position

ending with the lever in PARK.

5. Wipe the area around the dipstick clean to eliminate
the possibility of dirt entering the transaxle.

6. Remove the dipstick and determine if the fluid is hot

or cold. Hot fluid is approximately 180°F (82°C), which is

the normal operating temperature after the vehicle is

driven at least 15 mi (24 km). Hot fluid cannot be held

comfortably between the fingertips. Cold fluid is at a

temperature below 80°F (27°C).

7. Wipe the dipstick clean and reinsert until seated. Then,

remove dipstick and note the reading.

a. If the fluid is hot, the reading should be in the

crosshatched area marked "HOT" (between the upper

two holes in the dipstick).

b. If the fluid is cold, the fluid level should be between

the lower two holes in the area marked "COLD."

If the fluid level is low, add sufficient fluid through the

filler (dipstick) tube to bring it to the proper level. Do not
overfill.

I could be wrong but even though it doesn't come with a dip stick, it is my understanding that you can purchase one for the 3.5L. It costs about $68.00. So, there must be a place for it, if that information is correct. I would also like to perform some normal service for it.

There is a plug near the cooling lines, remove it and pour fluid in through the cap on top the transmission and fill until fluid runs out of plug, and you are full,
some have a small set screw in the middle of the drain plug, remove it and fill until fluid comes out of that set screw hole

Yes the 3.5L has no dipstick, but I changed my transaxel oil & filter a year and a half ago and while I had the pan off I studied the path of a dipstick if inserted. After measuring the recommended fill and pouring it in I used my Oil Dip Stick (cleaned well first) and determined that the level when the stick hit the bottom of the transaxel's pan was at the 1 quart low mark - I now use that as a gauge for my reference . No issues. I have 155,000 miles so far on this unit.

Don't have dipstick in dodge journey why

Because Dodge in their infinite wisdom believes you don't need one; they replaced the dip stick with a cap. However, one usually can be bought on ebay for under $20. I HIGHLY advise getting one of the after market ones and use it to check the fluid level, motor running on level ground, then remove it and re-install the factory cap. Dodge/ Chrysler is notorious for not filling these transmissions to the proper level from the factory. Change transmission fluid every 60-75K miles no matter what the owners manual says. Always use FULL synthetic ATF-4 transmission fluid.

How to check the transmisson fluid on a dodge journey sxt 2009

Hi, I will assume this vehicle has an automatic transmision, and a transverse mounted engine. If this is the case the transmision dipstick will usually be located under the hood on the passenger side of the car,
between the engine/trans. and the firewall. Some are on the drivers side based on exactly which drive train is in the vehicle. It will also usually say trans or something similar on it.This should be checked when the vehicle is hot running, in Park and on a level surface.
Hope this helps Vern

NEED TO ADD /CHECK TRANS FLUID

The best way to do this is locate the dipstick for the transmission. It is normally at the back of the engine on the passenger or drivers side. It will more than likely be yellow. To check it, start the vehicle and pull out the dipstick.

Transmission fluid all leaked out of 2002 dodge grand caravan, are they easy to replace?

Kelli,

replacing the transmission fluid is easy, but you really need to find out why and from where the old fluid leaked. Under the hood in the engine compartment you will find a dipstick (gauge to check the fluid level) which is essentially the same as the oil dipstick in its performance, but different in location. It should be clearly marked as such.

Pull dipstick out and insert funnel into the opening (filler tube) and add 4 quarts of ATF Plus 3 Type 7176. Start the engine and allow it to idle for approx. 2 minutes

Apply the parking brake and push down on the brake pedal while idling and run the gear selector through the gears, stopping at Park.

Check the dipstick and add fluid so that the level is 1/8 inch below the "ADD" indication on the dipstick if necessary. Allow the van to run for around another 10-15 minutes to achieve normal operating temperatures.

Check the fluid level again to make sure it reached the "Hot" indicator level on the dipstick, and add more fluid if needed and then replace the dipstick in the filler tube.

I would definitely find out why you have leaked all of your transmission fluid before refilling it.

I hope this helps and good luck!b989e6d.png
