My toyota has a 1KZ-TE engine. there are instances when i slow down the engine looses power and even if i push down the accelerator, the engine does not respond. the engine keeps on running though which gives me the opportunity to bring the car to the side road. can someone tell me what the problem is? rolly

Your diesel fuel strainer or filter may be blocked. similar thing happened with a friend's Prado recently. Have the strainer cleaned and replace your fuel filter.

The Engine Check Light only comes on to tell you there is an issue. Then you connect a Code Reader to the OBD Port and look at the Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC). The Code is a number and tells you the issue, and from there you can Google the Fix.
If the light comes on and goes off, the fault is transient. The ECM checks data multiple times a second, it can flag an issue and then clear it. The only way to find the code is to have a scanner connected as you drive, and read the Code when it appears.
