I've installed a new fuel pump, fuel line assembly comming out of the tank, and a new fuel filter . Problem continued so i put a new pickup in the distributor no change . I checked the mass air flow meter and it seemed to give readings that did not correspond with the amount that the meter was open . A new mass air flow meter costs $900.00 so I went with a used one . No change with the problem , truck starts then stalls 1-2 minutes later . I tried 2 more used units ( mass air flow ) with the same results . I then replaced the coil and igniter and that did'nt help . I can prop open the air flow meter and the truck will run much longer , but poorly . My next guess would be the throttle position sensor , but I cant keep throwing money at a problem I can't find . Any advice would be appreciated .
Thanks
Bill
Check yer vaccuum lines for cracks and your head gasket for damage
You may have a vacuum leak, get a can of spray gumout, spray the vac
lines and maniflod area, when the idle changes, youve found the leak!
You want the engine running and spray on the outside but do direct the
stream onto the hoses, if it is a vacuum leak, the engine idle will
change speed, then you have detected a leak, repair the vacuum leak and
see how it runs!
Check the idle air control, it's on the side of the throttlebdy...
Try cleaning the throttle body.Check the air-gap for the pick-up coil inside the distributor assembly(use a brass feeler gauge)
Check valve clearances if needed(possible tight intake valve adj.)
Check base timing(follow instr. via under hood label)
Hope this helps.
Send me some money and maybe i'll tell you
