Heard loud backfire and found box ( part F 202 90 001 and 002)attached to air intake hose shattered . what is plastic box called and where is best place to get another. After it broke I could start car but it died almost immediately. Removed broken box and placed plastic lid over hole and secured with tape and appears to be temporarily ok as car now runs. Is there any problem driving until replacement part obtained?

No problem driving it, but expect it to idle weird. That box is not really a neccesity, only to regulate the air coming into the intake. Now your not gonna be able to get that box at an auto parts store. Your best bet is to find a auto salvage yard, find a mazda: 626 dx,lx; MX-6 non-turbo or Ford Probe non-turbo model (year is 88-92). Just as long as it has that Ford 2.2 liter inline 4, your fine. Bring a 3/8's wrench with a 6 inch extension and a 10 mm socket, possibly a 1/2 and 12 mm, i can't remeber exactly. Also bring a phillips screwdriver and a pair of needle nose pliers. Remove the intake box and air mass meter and place them off to the side, DO NOT REMOVE THE AIR MASS METER ELECTRICAL CONNECTION. remove the mounting bolts off the box, carefully pull the intake hose and box out of the engine bay. and repeat the steps in reverse to install into your car. If you pull the part your self you'll probably pay less than 30 dollars (us). if you have them pull it, expect to pay more.

Location of map sensor on 2003 windstar

Fern, I believe you mean the Mass Air Flow sensor (MAF). It is normally found in the fresh air intake plastic/rubber hoses attached to the air filter box, on yours it may be in the part of air filter box. Check the attached links, instruction and guides, Good luck

Where the preheater hose is connected to the engine/exhaust, the box has rusted open. What is this part called?

Thermostatic Air hose attaches to a tube welded on the plate at the top of the exhaust manifold. It runs across the rear of the engine and attaches to the plastic tube sticking out from the air filter housing

My Liana got a problem of Back fire I changed ignition coil first then i Change their complete head but problem remain same?

Back fire back to where, the intake or exhaust.
intake backfire is a pop sound, not too loud, and is bad timing.
exh backfire means, fuel plus air is in the exh.
and explodes with a loud report , we call it muffler explosing to help
with clear meaning.... in this latter example
you have a bad running motor (rich as pig) a dead CAT and exhuast air leak
all at the same time.

We were driving along at 60 kph when we heard a popping sound. We pulled over and found that a hose from the inter cooler had come off. We called the RAA and they put it back on in seconds. Five minutes...

the popping noise is an engine backfire and that is what blew the intake hose off, the only thing that can cause the check engine light to flash is an engine misfire, it is not a good idea to drive it until you have it checked out.

How to change air filter on a 2009 hyundai sonata

Hi there, here are a few steps to help you out:
  • Turn the Sonata off to eliminate the risk of engine backfires while changing the air filter. Leave the car off until the filter has been replaced or there is risk of injury.
  • Lift the hood of the Sonata. Locate the air filter housing unit on the passenger side of the car, in the front corner. Look for a black, plastic cylinder that has an accordion-type hose attached to it that leads to the engine.
  • Remove the air intake hose and air duct from the housing unit. Disconnect the connector for the air-flow sensor from the filter cover. Unclip the clip on the filter cover. Lift the cover off the housing unit.
  • Take out the old filter from the housing unit. Remove any remaining debris out of the air filter unit. Wipe the inner and outer surfaces of the housing unit with a damp cloth.
  • Place the new air filter in the housing unit. Use a K&N air filter, part number 33-2346.
  • Replace the cover on the housing unit and clip it in place. Reattach the air-flow sensor. Put the air intake hose and air duct back in place on the housing unit.
Best of luck....

A molded plastic "box" missing

I'm thinking this is the cold air intake. The purpose of it is to draw cool air into the engine's intake instead of just drawing the air from the engine compartment. Your call runs better when it take in cooler air, so that's why it's there.
