My reverse lights and my brake lights will not work with the anti theft light on in the dash

These lights are all computer controlled ! Several modules involved DIM - dash integrated module , RIM - rear integrated module .They share information on serial data communication network . Class 2 an or GMLAN !
The rear fuse block supplies battery positive voltage through the REVERSE LAMP fuse to the coil and switch terminals of the reverse lamp relay. The DIM sends a power mode message to the RIM indicating that the ignition is in the ON position. When the driver of an automatic transmission equipped vehicle places the gear selector in the REVERSE position, the powertrain control module (PCM) sends a class 2 message to the RIM. The message indicates that the gear selector lever is in the REVERSE position. When the driver places a manual transmission equipped vehicle in reverse the reverse gear position switch mounted on the transmission closes. This provides a ground for the reverse gear position switch signal line, informing the RIM that the transmission is in reverse. For both automatic and manual transmission vehicles the RIM then grounds the control circuit of the reverse lamp relay . This energizes the reverse lamp relay, closing the switch side contacts and providing battery positive voltage to the backup lamp bulbs. The backup lamps are permanently grounded at G402. With both power and ground the backup lamp bulbs illuminate. Once the driver moves the shift lever out of the reverse position a message is send either by class 2 by the PCM or the reverse gear position switch opens causing the RIM to remove the ground from the reverse lamp relay control circuit. This opens the contacts in the relay turning OFF the backup lamps.
This is something best left to the dealer or a ASE certified repair shop . Need a factory or professional grade scan tool to diagnose an repair this . http://www.public.asu.edu/~pheanis/documents/VBI_CAN.pdf

Digital milage gear selector dont ligth up

hello thom.... you most likely have a blown bulb in that part of the dash. these are a pain to change unfortunately because you usually have to pull the dash part way out. i recommend that you look in the phone book for a repair shop called autoelectric repair shop. this is exactly what these shops are trained to do and they have all of the equipment to do it quickly. joe

Digital display in the dash says the tranny is in Drive, so it won't let the fuel pump engage. The transmission will fully function through the gaers, but the in dash display still says it's in drive, so...

Do you mean the car will not start because the display thinks it's not in Park or Neutral? It's likely the selector sensor not sensing the correct gear position. Does the dash display change when you move the selector? If not the sensor is bad or needs adjustment.

Gearshift selector problem

The gear selector switch is either out of adjustment or it is bad. Loosen the two bolts holding the gear selector in place and turn it slightly to see if the display stops flashing. You will have to manually shift the transmission lever at the switch into neutral, and then turn the switch until the display says neutral. Tighten the bolts and then check all gears. It's also possible the shift cable could also be out of adjustment. Does the display change if you simply wiggle the gear selector lever?

Gear with ! (Automatic transmission)
Yellow warning lamp = The transmission is malfuctioning. Avoid heavy loads. All of the selector lever positions can continue to be engaged; in the forward drive positions, however, the vehicle will be operating in a restricted gear range only. Have the system checked as soon as possible.

Clearing service message on dash

Turn the ignition to position 1 Push and hold trip reset while holding. Turn to position 2 hold trip reset till the service light flashes 3 times and then release. You should hear a beep to let you know it is reset. It might take you 2 times sometimes. If you have the message in the text window the little triangle in the center of the speedo assy. will flash. Also another trick to help you is when the milage returns the light should be reset.
