SOURCE: Trunk wont pull shut.

You have a pull down switch that activates the pull down motor for the trunk lid to close. The manufacture of this part supplies this to Ford & General Motors vehicles. You can go to a Cadillac dealership & purchase this part far cheaper than at Ford. I use to work at a GM dearlership & my neighboring Ford dealer would order this part from me for the cost of mine where less than the cost from Ford. Figure those guys out at Ford. No wonder they don't need a goverment bailout

SOURCE: trunk latch wont hold shut on my 02 cavalier

Make sure it is not binding/sticking where you pull the release cable.

Drench the entire works in WD-40. Push it back and forth until it moves with no resistance.

Make sure the part that hooks onto the latch hasn't come loose enough to not slide over when it makes contact.

If that doesn't work, take the whole thing off. You'll have to anyway to replace it. Chances are with it disassembled you'll see what's wrong.

Try using the key to open it even if the trunks open. Sometimes the latches get stuck into the closed positions. Turning the key will put it back the the right position. Then it might close

Trunck latch broken and trunk pull down will not work

This is a common problem and this is something you can do.there is a motor and a switch. the most common problem is the switch goes bad on the motor , i know that on the older models the switch could be replaced.
open the trunk you will need to remove the plastic cover to gain access to the motor, the motor is part of the latch, note the latch i speak of is the bottom one not the one one the trunk lid, you will see a few screws remove them and unplug connector, there is a way to power the motor to see if its good, another thing that customers have me do is i power the motor down which pulls latch down then i leave it disconnected this way the trunk will close by slamming it. it just wont do it slowly with motor but rather like the old car , just slam it shut.
If you want to repair it then test motor you will connect power and ground to motor and see if it moves if it does then a switch is all you need but if motor is bad then replace both parts, i think it comes complete with a switch but double check. the parts are dealer parts or on the web you will find them good day.

1996 Lincoln Town Car trunk motor won't shut off

under the trunk lip (directly where the latch goes into the lock jaws; remove the carpet so that you can see the side of the trunk latch; on the latch jaws (bottom) is a switch that contacts the latch (top) this switch is broken or, mis-aligned it opens (stops the trunk motor) when the latch contacts it.

Try spraying the inner portion of it with some WD40 or similar lubricant. It sounds like something must be stuck. After you spray it, keep working the key and pushing the remote until you get some results. Good luck. Let me know how you make out.

Trunk will not close at all

check the pull down motor toensure it has not been broken, i have heard of this before and the problem was when it got slammed it broke the motor. as far as not latching release the trunk and see if it will operate normal. if not lightly press it downand see if it will latch than, the semi-cirle catch must be open and will look like a small mouth when it is opened up.

2004 TOYOTA COROLLA TRUNK

I have a corolla 2003 and I had the same problem. I turned the key to the left and the lock turned left, engaging the valet parking mechanism. I could not turn the key to the right and could not get access to the trunk because the lever next to the driver seat was disengaged.
The way I solved this problem is as follow:on the back driver seat I pulled the back seat forward to leave an opening and snick my arm in the trunck. Then I grabbed the cable used to latch the seat and I pulled forward, i.e. toward the front of the car. The cable is connectred to the trunck so that it can be disconnected easily if pulled towards the front. If you pull towards the back it will remain attached to the trunck. So grab the cable an pull towards the front, and it will release itself. Since the cable is flexible, you can pull it out of the trunk from the same the opening you put your arm, and then disenagage the driver back seat. Fold forward the back seat and get into the trunk and use the lever in the latch of the trunck to open it. The turnk will open.

If the lock does not turn, you need to disconnect the lock from the mechanism, so that the driver seat lever can start working again. To do this, and with the trunk open, remove the cover holded by nine plastic pins. Do not break the pins. After removing the cover, you will see the lock holded by two nuts. Remove the nuts with a rachet. The lock will be loose, and disconnect the lever that connects the lock to the latch. At this point the driver seat lever will start working again. Close the trunk and verify that the driver seat lever opens the trunk. Now you can open and close the trunk , and have time to call the dealer for a new lock.
Good luck.
