Question about 2000 Ford Focus

After Draining cooling system on 01 Focus and replacing upper radiator hose. Filled system back up with coolant and now temp gauge rises up and down close to over heating. Tried burping system by leaving cap off tank and running car. Still haveing problem.

Hi... Be sure to put your heater controls to hot when you bleed the engine coolant, run the engine up to normal running temp and top up as neccessary... you may have an air lock in the heater matrix. Please let me know how you get on....

My radiator has coolant bubbling out of the upper corner sort of where it connects to the upper hose. Is there a gasket or oring there? Does bubbling mean there's air in the system?


Your radiator has got a damage. For a short term you can use liquid rad seal; but is to be repaired/replaced. When engine/coolant temp is rising volume/pressure is rising too, excess usually goes to expanding canister, but since there's a hole in rad, it gets spewed out.

No heat coming from the vents.


If it is a manual system--sounds like coolant low ie: air bubble in system. If it is ATC system, Check Codes, if no failure codes, coolant may be low--air bubble in system--most Durango's have air bleeders in system.

Yeah that is very possible the most common cause is because there isn't enough coolant in the radiator. If your radiator has a cap directly on it take it off and make sure the radiator is filled to the top of the neck with coolant. If the radiator does not you can remove the upper radiator hose and use a funnel to fill the radiator completely. If the temp gauge goes over 50% ever it's safe to assume you have a cooling issue. I hope getting your radiator properly filled with coolant fixes the issue. If not check for leaks in the water pump hoses etc. Check the thermostat.

Check the cooling fan, thermostat or radiator. I'd start with the basics and check to make sure cooling fans kick on. If they do, remove the thermostat and recheck. If it still fails and bottom and lower radiator hoses are hot then you have a plugged radiator

Air lock cooling system


Not sure I follow your wording on the different temps. If the system is full of coolant and working correctly, the thermostat should open at 195 degrees which would be several miles down the road. Once the thermostat opens both radiator hoses should be warm. If the water pump is not working the engine will get hot very quickly.
Have you tried running without the thermostat to see what happens ?

'02 venture temp gauge goes to red but the lower hose temp is 115 and upper hose is 200, would this be a temp gauge sending unit gone bad?


SINE YOU HAVE DIFFERENT TEMPERATURE ON THE UPPER RADIATOR HOSE FROM THE BOTTOM HOSE,MEANS THAT YOU DO NOT HAVE A GOOD COOLANT CIRCULATION AND THIS MIGHT CAUSED EITHER FROM FAULTY THERMOSTAT,AIR IN THE COOLING SYSTEM,OR BLOGGED RADIATOR.

My 2001 ford focus is overheating it doesnt seem to be losing water and if i turn the heater on the temperature goes back down


you might want to see if the cooling fan is working at the radiator.if its not then the fan motor may be no good.by putting the blower motor on you are giving the system air flow to pull heat out of the cooling system by it blowing air over the heater core.you can remove the plug on the fan motor and connect jumper wires directly from power and ground to the connectors on the fan motor,if the fan doesn`t work then the cooling fan motor will have to be replaced.you also could have a thermostat that is not opening all the way causing a rise in engine temperature.
