There are 2 bolts for the alternator, they will be pointed toward the passenger wall inside the hood. The bottom bolt runs through a little black piece before it bolts into the alternator, on the side of the black piece that faces the front bumper (would be facing you if you were standing in front of the car working on it), there is another bolt which when you loosen it, it releases the tension on the belt.

Belt is loosened by pivoting a tensioning pulley arm on most newer vehicles, it should be marked on the diagram in your engine compartment of belt routing. Many have a square hole for a breaker bar or ratchet to fit for leverage, if not try a box wrench on the pulley mounting bolt, some can be moved by hand. Alternator R&R is un hook wires and unbolt from bracket/mount. Serpentine belt life is approximately 100,000 mi; you may want to replace

Battiers lights stays on in the dash

Could be your alternator has thrown its hand in, or your drive belt has snapped. If your belt had gone you would have other problems that would leave in in no doubt. Having said that alternators rarely go wrong unless its due to age (and yours is getting on a bit) or you have been jump starting your car or an other one, If this is the case, then you have blown the internal regulator/diodes and will have to get it repaired, plus you will have learnt how not to jump start a car. Other than that I would just do a quick check for any loose wires on the back of the alternator just to be certain

My lexus rx300 new belts are squealling, battery light on,

as the a/c motor is a pump (resistance to turning),if the belt is not adjusted correctly(too loose)it will squeel, and the alternator will not produce enough power to keep the battery charged should always retension the belts after about 1k/1 month after fitting new.
adjust so that the longest run of the belt, between pulleys, has 1/2"flex

My lexus rx300 new belts are squelling, battery light on,

It sounds like you have loose belt(s). When the A/C is turned on, it puts a big load on the belt, if it is loose and starts slipping and squeeling, then the alternator won't turn, so the battery runs down as you drive. Make sure all your belts and battery terminals are tight.

97 Lexus Es300 noise under the hood by alternator

mcdevito75 here, If you have 1 continuous belt on the engine (serpentine) then the belt could be worn or the tension pully holding the belt tight could be going bad. No noise in Neautral or Park as increased engine speed in these gears over rides the worn part and thus no noise. On a cold engine examine the belt, look for frays / wear from where the belt rides the pullys. If the belt is 2 years old, Change it.
