Check the battery in key, check wiring harness to relays behind dash. I think you have a bad relay or connection or button on your key is sticking. Worst case is having shop diagnose system so you can repair.

I HAVE A 96 FORD F150 IT WILL NOT GO INTO 4 WHEEL DRIVE THE LIGHTS ON THE DASH LIGHT UP

This sounds like the auto locking hubs have gone out. They will sometimes make a ratcheting noise and then seize up. This time of year especially with the colder weather they will lock up when the grease gets old and hardens. The best thing to do is to replace them with a nice set of Warn manual lock-out hubs. There are some special sockets you will need to do this repair so it might be best to take this one to a shop.

only thing i can think of trying is to use the key to lock and then unlock the drivers door, this will disarm the security system/engine immobilizer
