you may have to adjust the switch. The shifter interlock also works with the brake light switch. try pressing harder on the pedal to release the shifter.

Gear shift stick is loose from the steering column. It will not shift out of park. What do I need to look to repair?

It has a safety system that keeps it locked in Park unless your foot is on the brake. If the brake lever switch is broke or out of place it will not shift. Someone could have bent the parts when it did not unlock. Check rear brakelights to see if you get it to light when a foot is on brakepedal.

2002 ford mustang wont come out of park

Your problem is most likely your brake light switch.
This swich also controls allowing the shifter to be moved from park when the brakes are applied.
To verify if the switch is the problem
Turn the key to unlock the wheel, then shift into neutral and start the car.
If that works replace the switch located on the brakepedal up under the dash

I cant get my suburban out of park

The brake switch may have stopped working. Have someone check to see if you have brake lights when you touch the pedal. The brake switch unlocks the shift interlock that allows you to take the vehicle out of park. If there are no brake lights, check that you have power to the switch connector for the brake switch and if so, replace the switch.

Sounds like the shift lock is not working. Maybe something was put together wrong with the ignition switch.

No Brake Lights, unable to switch from park to drive

It is not the multifunction switch. The power feed goes thru the brake switch before the multi function. You have no power the the brake switch because your shift interlock is not allowing you to shift it. I'll look up the wiring diagram and repost with a solution.
