Question about Nissan Sentra

2 Answers

I have a 1997 nissan sentra with 1.6 litter engine. It has 171000 miles. The other day I run my car very low on fuel and went around a sharp curve (345 degrees) when I came out of the curve the car acted like it run out of fuel.( the engine was running but would not respond to me pressing the gas pedel. I put the car in neutral and the engine reved up. I put it back into drive and the engine ran but would not respond to the gas pedel being press on. all this went on as I coasted to a place I could pull off the highway.)finally the engine quit.(out of gas). I put a half of gallon of gas into the tank. Car would not start. I put another 2 gallons in the tank. the car started very hard (I kept the starter on untill the engine started (15 seconds) the whole while feathering the gas pedel). once the engine started, it responded to the gas pedel very slowly. once the rpms came up, I could rev it up no problem but once rpms dropped to below 1500 or so I had to feater the pedel untill rpms became high again. once the car was in drive it didnt matter how much I feathered the pedel it would not go and would stall. I got the car towed home. I removed the in line filter and went direct. car wont start. i checked the fuses in the egine compartment and the fuses under the dash. all good. I seperated the fuel line were the in line filter was at, and blew compressed air in one side of the line. The air went through the pressure regulator, the fuel rail were the injecters are, back to the tank ( i could hear it bubbleing in the tank), and back to the seperated line were it spewed gas all over the place. There is no blockage as far as i can tell. I opened the top of the tank to make sure no sludge or crud was on the fuel pick ups sock (clean as can be). car wont start. I checked to see if i have spark (i pulled the spark plugs and i have spark. also the battery has a good charge. Can any one help me figure out why this car wont start

Clean the injectors, it only takes a little dirt from the bottom of the tank to plug them up. Try to keep a 1/4 tank of gas at all times if possible.

Most likely a bad fuel pump, do you hear it hum when the key is on? fuel pump has to pump 180 pounds of pressure to operatethe motor, some pumps do come on but don't pump enough pressure for car to run.if ou have spark but no run, it's a fuel issue. you wre right o replace the inline filter, that's where i would've started.i suggest you replace that fuel pump. if you disconnect the fuel line at filter@ turn the key on, the gas should shoot out about 20 feet. hop this helps!!

I have a 2001 nissan sentra, and it seems to have a common 2001 nissan sentra problem. i went to start her about 2 months ago, and she fired right up. drove around, went home and she sat til the next day....

Go over it, check the air filter, fuel filter, make sure your key isn`t bent. bent keys off set the chip and the car cant read it. next time take out the key and turn it around and try it again. let me know.

See , the fuel pump regulator is a sealed unit and all you can do is check for vacuum and hook up a fuel pump tester and check for pressure and volum.

My 97 Nissan Sentra keeps cutting off when I stop at a red light or a stop sign...... Already changed the fuel pump...

Check your car's idling it should be around 800 to 1,200rpm whether the ac is engaged or not.
Also, have your car's fuel mixture system checked. Most of the issues like this that I encountered involved a wrong air-to-fuel ratio, especially with carbureted engines.

My 97 tahoe only running on 6 cylinders

If compression test is good is either no spark, bad coil or wire, or no fuel, bad fuel injector. Need to clarify which is not functioning properly.

On a 1997 nissan sentra will the radiator fan run all the time the car is running

No, it should only turn on when the temperature switch tells it to. On a hot day you may hear it running even after shutting off the engine. The fan is set up so that when you are moving at enough speed the fan shuts off to save energy, when you slow down or stop the fan should come on to maintain airflow. If you check it at this point yes it should be running. When you start it cold the fan will not turn on for maybe 10 or more seconds when the engine starts to warm up. Hope this helps.

Things to be concered about; 1.) the fan never seems to turn on. This will cause your engine to overheat when you stop.
2.) Your heat is not working. The heat going away can be a sign that you antifreeze is low and that you are about to overheat.

My 05 Sentra died twice on me and is running very sluggish...

it could be that your fuel pump could be weak. or that it's in the electrical circuit of your fuel system. what that means is that the sensors that help read the performance of your fuel system could be malfunctioning. this would involve the O2(oxygen) the TPS(throttle position sensor. or it could be the fuel pressure regulater. you could probably go to a small garage and have scan done cheaper than if you take it to a dealership.hope this helps please rate this ......thanks and good luck
