What is wrong when you turn the key to start and the radio and all the instruments turn on but the starter doesn't click and the engine doesn't turn on even after trying to jump start it

Dead battery

Dangerous practice to try & jump a dead battery

The battery cables could be loose at either end or corroded internally

Most likely the battery is worn out, if original to car
since it was new, or the starter solenoid is worn

You do not want to jump any vehicle made after the
year 2000 or your asking for possible problems with
todays electronics.

You need a good battery that has been tested & fully
charged, then only jump with a jump pack, not another car

Car doesn't start, starter clicks

Hi Dave,

I see that you mentioned the starter clicks but will not start the car.

Check Battery connections, clean the contacts to be sure, also if still it does not start the car try a known good battery.

I hope this helps, have a nice day.

Where is the starter/solenoid located on a 2003 ford expedition 5.4 liter

You checked the relays, found nothing wrong,so you
installed new ones anyway?

You checked the starter how?

You hear the solenoid click & that doesn't tell you
where it is?

Car wont start, NOT battery

sometimes a rubber mallet doesn't work on the stater, you actually have to hit it with something stronger, like a hammer while turning it over. If not check to see if you have a pro lock on your vehicle because if that becomes just a little loose it won't start.

My 1995 Nissan Quest clicks when I try to start it. The battery is brand new

Possible bad starter. have a qualified tech check it in the vehicle. its not fun pulling it out to test and find out its good. Other easier items to check are all battery connections to battery, body terminals, block and starter for corrosion and security. New battery doesn't mean its good. Good luck

1991 Lexus 400 - engine doesn't start - battery seems charged - 12.3 volts - makes clicking sound only - doesn't turn over at all.

Is it one click or multiple clicks. If it's multiple clicks, it sounds like a dead battery. Voltage isn't always an indicator of a good battery, you need to have enough cranking amps to be able to start an engine also. If you have dash lights and it only clicks once, you could have a bad starter. An easy way to check this is to try and jump start the vehicle. If it starts up with a jump start, you need a new battery. If it still doesn't start up and it just clicks, you probably need a new starter.

Good Luck!

Brand new battery with 850 cold cranking amps.....lights and radio work fine...try to start the engine and it clicks...click is on the passenger side by what I think is the A/c unit

That would be your starter solenoid clicking, the positive battery cable runs off the battery to it, easy way to track it down, you can test it by putting your ignition key in the on position and using a jumper wire connect the two large terminals, if the car starts replace the starter solenoid, if it doesn't do anything replace the starter.
