Question about 2005 Pontiac Grand Prix

1 Answer

I believe I may have a bad blower motor in my 2005 Pontiac Grand Prix GT. The air conditioner unit works, but when I turn on the blower, it works for the first 1-3 minutes, and then it fades in and out. I can make it work by hitting the side of the dash, right next to the stereo. This makes it kick back in for a while. Its like hitting your high school locker to get it open. :) Any advice?

Replace the blower resistor that is mounted next to the blower motor on the passenger side of the vehicle.
This will restore correct blower operation and I suspect it is also back-feeding voltage resulting in your electrical issues.
Two screws hold the blower resistor into the heater case and it is very easy to replace.
Good luck

Air conditioner turns on when car starts.

If only the AC indicator light is on but you are still getting warm air from the vents, this is not an issue.  Most newer cars run the AC compressor nearly all the time to prevent moisture accumulation inside the car.  Without the compressor running, your windows may steam up and hinder your visibility.

2005 Pontiac Gran Prix blower does not work. I check the fuse at HVAC fuse at the end of the dashboard and it is OK. The switch itself activates the AC light on and off when I turn it...

Check the blower motor which is behind the right side of the dash, in the lower right side of the HVAC Assembly, above foot area of the passenger floor. The other thing to test is the blower motor resistor which should be next to the blower motor.

Blower motor not working

Try replacing the blower motor resistor, it has different resistances for each speed. Mounted on the passenger side air duct, it is kind of a ***** to get to but you can see the harness if you invert and shove your head up into the footwell.
