Three should be sufficient, look on gas cap it usually says, or in owners manual, but three will work. If there is a problem sealing get a new cap they are cheap.

For a Honda CRV 2009, how do I fix the "check gas cap" error message, after buying a new $40 honda gas cap?

The best way to fined out what is leaking is to have a smoke test done at the gas tank, now the gas cap could be fine but the filler neck could be rusted and leaking and you may get the same message as there is NO pressure being created in the gas tank.

2000 Honda CRV won't start, turns over, no spark

Do you have a spark at the coil? Try pulling off the cable, and with somebody inside to crank the engine, check to see if there is a spark jumping from the center high-voltage terminal. If you have no spark, you may have a bad coil or bad electronic ignition module.

The engine warning light has come on in my 2002 honda crv what is the problem?

the most common problem is driving with the gas cap off or loose. If this is your problem then tighten the gas cap and drive as usual. The light will go out on its own in a few days. If this is not your problem then you will have to have the cars computer codes read. Some auto parts store will hook up a reader to your cars computer and give you a read out for free. Other wise you will have to buy a code reader or take it to a mechanic.

We have a 2005 Honda crv. Malfunction indicator

Hello Michael.
While your fuel cap may still be an issue there are many other items that may be at fault. It's possible the fuel cap tightening is a coincidence and something else is causing the problem.
There are a few hundred possibilities that could turn on your MIL.
First thing that needs to be done is verify what the code is that turns on the light. If you are in the USA Autozone will give you a free scan to start you off. Then you can begin to home in on the problem.
Best of the festive season to you.

Emissions control light on 2004 Honda CRV is staying on, even after checking gas cap. What should I do? Is there a finite answer to indicate what the problem is, or will it be 'trial and error'? Also, how...

No big problem, turn the gas cap to tighten it,and keep turning it until it clicks, drive awhile, and it should reset itself. If it does not, replace the fuel cap.
