Question about 2001 Ford Focus

1 Answer

I own a 2002 ford focus. I recently tried to go on a trip. I got 300+ miles from home and the engine light came on. Well we "limped home" Barely made it.Changed Everything. Light went off, I drove it a few miles, light came back on, and I barely made it home again. Whats up with this?

Try disconnecting the Battery for 10 minutes. Just take off the NEG- cable. The warning light has a reminder for faults. It takes 25 to 35 startups before the problems cycle through. Or you can disconnect the Battery like I indicated.

You can also go to Autozone or Oreillys for a free scan. They can use the scanner to wipe the problems off the onboard computer in your car. If the problem returns go back and have them scan it again and find the culprit.

You can compare the new list to the parts you already replaced.

I have ford focus xr5 turbo lv 2008 after service due the engine light comes up on the dashboard and some time flashing and when i press the accelator in drive doesn't go fast and don't get pick up ...? ?

Sounds like you have a serious engine malfunction and your ECU is putting vehicle in safe mode which is limp mode, no performance. You have to pull codes to see what the issue is, or if mechanical, look for loose hoses which is most likely the culprit which is sending signal to your ECU tripping limp mode.

If you have a hih miles truck,it is very possoble you have aclogged cat.Have a muffler shop test pressure in front and behind by drilling small holes, checkin w/gauge,then welding back. This should be free if you replace the cat.

If it dropped below freezing, you may have water freezing solid somewhere in the fuel system; try a bottle or two of "Dry Gas" and while the vehicle is running, it should mix with the water and get it out of the system!

What is limp mode?

Hi, limp mode or (limp-in mode or limp-home mode)occurs when your computer in your car is not communicating with the sensors on your engine. On some cars(volkswagon Passat for example) If you disconnect the battery then the computer will lose all of the settings and will go into limp-in mode.
The car will have little power and a top speed of only about 30 miles per hour.
The function of limp-in mode is to get you to a place that can repair the car but the car is barely drivable.

Got a ford focus on a 07 bringing up 2 fault codes p0607 and p2110 i know what the codes but are unsure about the best way to proceed with this problem hope you can help thanks Andy

Hello, There is a PCM relay in the Powerbox. It may be worth your time to change it and see what happens. The PCM may be going out, but a bad Relay to it could have affected the programming inside. This would require at trip to the Dealer or a Repair shop having the PCM programming data if the new Relay does not help.

I looked up the NHTSA website for your car and there was no mention of problems with the PCM. If your engine goes into a "Limp Home" mode, you may have a bad temperature sensor triggering the event. However, the "Limp Home" mode should not be recorded as a Module error. It is part of the programming to have a "Limp Mode".

Try the Relay and if it does not fix the problem, then you need the PCM programming checked.

Glowplug light

Hi ,
You need to have the fault codes read, this will point you in the right direction, the revs die as it is going into limp home mode to protect itself,by turning the ignition off and then on you reset the ecu untill it detects the fault again.
