Question about 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee

1 Answer

My 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee has 108,000 miles. The Engine Diagnstic Indicator light came on so I took off a battery terminal for a few moments and reatached it and the light was out for about a day the came on again so I repeated the process and the light went out for about a day and has come on again. What is most commonly wrong in this situation?

Hi this is telling you , that you have a fault code stored in the ecm, something has gone wrong with a component on your vehicle, it could be serious, or could be simple but you really should get it checked out in case you do some damage to other things, if it still runs ok, with no problems then normally its the H02 oxygen sensor either the one on the exhaust manifold or the one just past the catalytic converter under the vehicle, but you are best getting the error code read and finding out what it really is...hope this helps

Try replacing the gas cap. I had the same thing happen and the repair shop tried telling my I had the replace the emissions box ($300). I had the replace the gas cap to pass a vehicle inspection and the light went away. Cap is cheap...if it doesn't work then no harm.

it sounds to me like you have inferior gas in the tank, or some water has gotten in your fuel. you may be able to add a little denatured alcohol to the gas and it may burn off the water. good luck

The easiest way to do this is take the negative battery terminal and leave it off for a few hours. Or if you have an autozone close they can reset it for you for free.

2006 jeep grand cherokee PRND all light up then my engine light comes on but goes off after a few runs

I had the same problem with my Jeep and I took it to the dealer. the shifter bezel was bad (this is a electronic, fly-by-wire type of shifting mechanism). The dealer replaced the shifting bezel and it fixed the problem. My Jeep was out of warranty by about 2,000 miles and they would not fix it for free. They told me this is a common problem. Cost was around $475.00.

Jeep Grand Cherokee Power Loss

a bad cam sensor will cause vehicle to shut off while driving, and cause a hard time starting. but this usually sets a trouble code p0340. scan vehicle to see if any codes come up. after it is fixed, erase codes with a obd2 scanner. if you do not have one, you can go to any auto parts store and they will erase codes for free.
