What belt broke? If its the water pump belt it will overheat, if its the alternator belt it will loose battery power and stall. If its the a/c belt no worries. If its the P/S belt well you would know right away if it was the P/S belt.

Is it easy to replace a snapped belt, on a pye cd06 elec dryer, how much is a replacement belt, aprox

* V-Belts (older cars) are cheap $3-10. Even cheaper if you buy more from on-line sites like Amazon.com or WalMart
* Timing belts a lot more $25-40. But the problem is not the belt but the labor needed to replace the belt. Like a Head gasket for $5 but +150 labor to replace (remove engine components and remove, clean head)
* Chain timing belts and internal timing bells are more along with the added precision labor (it's inside the engine block)
* What caused the belt to snap? Worn belts can probably be replaced as simple wear and tear. New broken belt is cause to check for engine lock up, broken parts, Heavy part (from road) damaged under carrage. Need to have a mechanic check.
* Be safe. Have a qualified Auto Mechanic check and service your car.
* Check your warranty. Call for service.

What if the fan belt break while driving

Dan h described what would happen if your timing belt/chain broke.. fortunately the consiquences aren't as dire if your SERPENTINE belt snaps. Most vehicles have the following systems or devices powered by the front engine accessory drive belt (FEAD belt)
AC compressor
Power steering pump
Alternator
Fan (some vehicles do and some don't)
Water pump

All but one of these things can be lived without, at least for a short time. If your belt snaps and your water pump stops your engine will overheat in no time flat., say you're cruising through a rural area and your belt snaps a mile and a half away from the next town, your car will get you there, but you had better turn it off once you get into town. After a belt snaps you've got 2 miles before you absolutely need to shut your car down to avoid damage.

1997 Mitsubishi spacewagon 2 ltr petrol, snapped cambelt, is the engine a "safe" engine and do i need to take out the engine to change belt and tensioners ?

Hi

These engines are not safe and I would bet you have some valve damage. you dont need to remove the engine to fit the belt however so if you want to try your luck then it might be worth a try. Mitsubishi's in my experience always damage something when the belt snaps.

Engine squealing, seems to be belt, first day of this. After driving on freeway to work, noticed smoke coming from under the hood. ???? Safe to drive home 12 miles? Or should tow? I am scared to death

Well if it sound like the belt squeking, it is possible what you are hearing is the tenshioner pully bearings going out,and the smoke from the belt its, self. I would not drive the car untill its checked out. If the berings lock up it will snap the belt and you will be let on the side of the road. You can hve someone remove the belt the tenshiner pulley is the one that releases the belt from the other pullys if you can move it back and forth it needes to be replaced, some times you can spen the pully and her it grind. Check all of the pully the belt routs around also

Power steering stopped working and the battery light came on but it still runs,

It is a safe bet the serpantine belt that drives the power steering and alternator has snapped, open the hood and check, there should be a belt about an inch wide or so running round the pulleys, if you can see a bunch of polished rings across the pulleys then the belts gone, you need a special tool or a decent toolbox to fit a new one, it often also runs the water pump so dont drive far.

A belt snapped, leaked antifreeze and no power steering

If it was the timing belt, the car would have quit right then and there.
It's the belt that drives the fan, water pump and power steering.
Probably what they call the serpintine belt.

Snapped timming belt

Remove number one spark plug.Rotate engine hand and cam separately until piston is at top for number one cylinder and ignition rotor is aligned at number on hole. Now you can install timing belt. Rotate engine by TWO crankshaft resolutions. Recheck timing marks. Now perform compression testve to with all spark plugs out on all cylinders. If one is low then you have an interference problem and will have to remove cylinder head to have bent valves repaired.
