What model and year? There should be a belt diagram somewhere in engine compartment on any Dodge after the mid '80's. Otherwise go to library or get a manual from auto parts store...

Change a serpentine belt on a 97 lincoln

3.8L Engine
  1. Insert a 1/2 inch flex handle in the square hole in the tensioner. The tensioner has a square hole cast into the rear of the tensioner body directly behind the pulley. Rotate the tensioner clockwise and remove the belt from the pulleys.

NOTE As an alternate method, a 16mm socket can be placed on the tensioner pulley bolt and rotated clockwise to remove the belt.

To install:
  1. Following the schematic on the decal under the hood, loop the drive belt over all the pulleys except the alternator pulley.
  2. With the belt installed properly on all except the alternator pulley, rotate the tensioner as described above and install the belt on the alternator pulley. Ensure that all the V-grooves make proper contact with the pulleys.

4.6L Engine
WARNING Do not allow the drive belt tensioner to snap back as damage to the drive belt tensioner or personal injury could result.

  1. Rotate the drive belt tensioner clockwise with a breaker bar installed in the 3/8 inch square hole in the drive belt tensioner.
  2. Lift the drive belt over the idler pulley flange and remove the drive belt.
To install:
  1. Following the schematic on the decal under the hood, position the belt over the pulleys, except the idler pulley.
  2. Rotate the tensioner as described above and install the belt on the idler. Ensure that all the V-grooves make proper contact with the pulleys.

Idler pulley came off, have pulley and new bearings, need bolt and washers(?) to install, but i am getting mixed answers about the assembly. do you have a schematic or a trusted source for this puzzle?

Wouldn't hurt to either visit a scrapyard or open up someone else's hood just to see how it is installed. Many bolts for pulleys have a longer unthreaded shoulder. You may want to get what you need from the yard while you are there!

I need to put the fanbelt back on

Get a serpentine belt tool from a parts store. It is a flat metal piece with a handle, and a fitting for a socket on the opposite end. The tool will surely come with the size socked you need. Use the tool on the bolt on the serpentine belt tensioner pulley, as should be located on a schematic printed under the hood. When you loosen the tensioner, the belt will be able to get around all of the pulleys that you need, again following the schematic prinded on the underside of the hood.

How do I tighten a serpentine belt on my 94 expo

Use a wrench on the bolt through the idler pulley to raise up on the pulley and take the tension off of the belt. There should be a schematic for the routing of the belt on the fan shroud, If not, draw one before you remove the belt. Don't rely on memory.

Serpentine belt tensioner pulley adjustment

If this is an ac car you will need to get the correct belt and retreive a routing diagram from autzone or the manual. sometimes the pulleys are different for ac versus non ac and you may have to remove an idler to run the belt
