Mercon/dexron Ford calls for mercon. The bottle of fluid will say dexron/mercon on the front. Also if you check the dipstick it will usually say what it is also.

Transmission whines when cold and shifts on the edge

Sounds like it maybe slipping, try checking the transmission fluid level and add as necessary to full mark of near full mark, which is in the operating range, could do what I did with my windstar minivan, add in the Lucas Transmission Fix, for your Ford Taurus you'll need Mercon ATF ( Automatic Transmission Fluid ) unless its a manual transmission or differently specified which then will need different fluid, check the owners manual, repair manual or phone Ford and ask them for transmission fluid type. Keep in mind that the wrong fluid type in transmission and or wrong amounts ( overfilled ) or ( underfilled ) can affect the transmission's proper operation.

Also check your coolant, when coolant level is low the light will come on the dash cluster and add as needed, Fords usually use the green coolant, green colored coolant or could use the universal type coolant. Check the owners manual, look in a repair manual or ask Ford technician for the coolant type.

Trans. dont work when warm.

Your transmission is going out. You could try running some lucas transmission fluid in it and see if that helps. i know they sell it at wal-mart

I have a 1994 ford taurus , It starts but will not move . is there a way to check the transmission.

You can eliminate anything that is not the transmission. Check your transmission fluid level, look at it's color, see if their are metal particles in it, smell it and see if it smells burnt. Was it doing anything unusual before not moving, slow acceleration, hesitating, increased RPMs?

ATF for 1994 Lexus GS 300

I know from experience that you should only use manufacturer recommended fluids in your transmission, Especially toyota, they are very peculiar about the fluids you use in them. Although the fluid you put in it may not cause any harm, it is always best to use the fluids recommended.

FLUID TYPE: DEXRON 4 OR 6, 6 IS THE BEST AND NEWEST FLUID TYPE AND FAR SUPERIOR TO OLDER TYPE 4. DEXRON 6 PROVIDES MORE POSITIVE SHIFTS AND LONGER TRANSMISSION LIFE.

Transmission fluid port - cannot find for Taurus 2004

You add transmission fluid through the dipstick opening for the transmission... you need a long neck funnel to do so.. they make a transmission fluid funel that you can get. Be careful not to over fill!
