Temperture gauge

It's either a loose wire on the sending unit, or the sender itself. Or i suppose it could even be the gauge, but i'd bet on the one of the other 2.

2003 range rover temperture gauge

Remove the temp sensor wire with key in on position to see if it still goes to hot position If it does you have a short in the sender wire and if it drops to not reading the sensor is probably faulty

sometimes there are two temp sensors, one for the gauge inside and one for the engine management. You have possibly replaced the wrong one. Have a look to see if there is another, if so disconnect one and see if gauge drops in car. if it does its the other that needs replaced.
