Question about 2006 Volkswagen Golf

My car just stopped while driving it, all the lights came on , but the EPC light stayed on, rescue man couldnt find what the problem was, he seemed to think it was fuel not getting through????? vw POLOL 06

EPC stands for Electronic Pedal Control. The vehicle may have detected a fault in the drive by wire system and shut the vehicle down. You will need a scantool, not a code reader, capable of communicating with your Volkswagen. Once you know what codes are present you'll have a lot better idea of what is going on.

    Thank you for reply, im about to contact a mechanic, what is a scantool?? so i can actually convince him i know a little about cars ??/ sorry im a woman and dont want to get ripped off by a garage .thank you again

    A scan tool is a device that allows a technician to communicate with your vehicle. He/She will be able to pull codes, Review data, and sometimes operate or test components.

    Unless you actually know what you are talking about they will see right through it. I've been in this business for over 15 years and have yet to see it all or hear it all, but the one thing that makes me shake my head and chuckle is when customers start asking for the "computer printout" after we have completed the diagnostics on there vehicle!

    All the shop needs to know is what happened when the vehicle died what light continues to be illuminated, and what the vehicle is currently doing or not doing. They will take care of the rest.

    A Good independent shop will have the tools necessary to fix this problem. The best time to figure out if a shop is equipped to handle the services you vehicle requires is not when there is a major problem. When you find shops to deal with major issues several things can happen. One is you are not familiar with the people behind the counter, two you do not know how the shop operates, three you don't know there capabilities, and four your not aware of how they charge for services. Not only do you have to deal with the stress of you vehicle being disabled you are now overwhelmed by all the information you are receiving by the shop.

    The best thing you can do is try out shops for regular services. Oil changes, tire repairs, rotations, general services. Give them a couple tries. If you don't like the they operate move on to another. Once you find a shop you are comfortable with ask them if they are comfortable with more extensive services on your vehicle. Replacing timing belts, drive-ability diagnosis, brakes etc.

    In your circumstance since you will be calling around I would probably recommend the dealer. They will have all the tools necessary to figure out what is going on and this is not the first time they have dealt with this.

When was the last time you changed your Air filter( A dirty filter can put MAF sensor out of range). How about the fuel filter (Fuel starvation). These filters should be changed every 30,000 miles . It is normal for all of the dash lights to come on if the engine stops running. Is the Jetta a Diesel or Gas. Perform The OBDII scan again to see if current faults are present. Do the cheapest fixes first. Also check oil often. The low oil sensor will trigger engine shut down if more than 1 quart low

It sounds as if your vehicle may have severe water damage to the engine. The engine sensors on the golf are suseptable to water damage and can result in epc light that you are seeing on your dash, or so i was told by VW. I replaced all the sensors, alternator and the computer on my original engine, but this action didnt fix the problem. So i bit the bullet and replaced the engine, and haven't had a problem since. If you do the labor yourself it can be done as cheap as $4000. I hope this helps mate.

make sure the gas cap is tight. it may take driving for a week for the light to go out.
