The crush sleeve is a one time use. You put in a new one, and torque the pinion to spec, and the sleeve crushes during this process.

I believe your rear end uses a crush sleeve. You have to shim your pinion gear to the proper depth first, then you have to crush sleeve (impact gun helps), then measure the torque ( inch pounds I believe) it takes to rotate the pinion gear. If you don't have the right equipment to set up your rear end, take it to a shop.

you have to disassemble the differential to remove the pinion gear to replace the crush sleave. to remove the pinion nut remove driveshaft then using proper size socket with an air gun remove nut then push out pinion gear from differential. to assemble check clearances of side bearings and pinion/ring gear contact clearances, and proper torque for pinion nut.

170 ft.lbs is the minimum; be aware that this differential uses a crush sleeve to set the backlash and the pinion torque is what crushes the crush sleeve. If you don't set the backlash correctly you can grind up your differential gears.

If you are talking the rear pinion seal, it isn't too bad at all. You just have to drop the drive shaft, remove the pinion nut and pull the pinion, then knock out the old seal and hammer in the new one. Going back together is just the reverse but you have to torque the pinion nut to the specified setting. As long as you are not removing the pinion gear you do not need to worry about setting the rear end up or worry about the crush sleeve.

realistically?? take the rear end apart , you can purchase the bearings and seals as a kit, that will include carrier bearings pinion bearings , crush spacer and seals, clean the housing carefully, you will have to set the backlash on the carrier, adn also the preload on the pinion

Put it together without the seal in place, you may have to take it apart again. You want to have about 8-10 inch pounds of preload on new bearings, less on used probably just a light drag. I recommend using a 3/4 in drive socket and ratchet and you have to hold the yoke somehow, a pipe wrench works but it's kind of crude. Put a little oil on the bearings and on the threads, if you have a new nut, save it for your final assembly. It's best to have helper because you really have to pull on the wrench to get the crush started. Once the sleave starts crush it gets easier, tighten the nut until the the end play is gone, check it frequently and spin it occasionaly as you tighten the nut. Once the free play is gone and the pinion still spins freely carefully continue to tighten the nut until you feel drag on the shaft. You need a dial type inch pound torque wrench to check the preload not a click type. If you don't have a torque wrench you can do it by feel it should take a little effort to turn the shaft you should be able to turn it by hand. Once you confident you have the right preload you may want to put the ring gear in and check the backlash and wear patern. If you are just replacing the bearings you shouldn't have any trouble. If you are changing the gears you could run into all kinds of problems and may need to seek a pro to help. If the gears are not set up right they will make noise and the gears won't last. Once you sure you have everthing right remove the pinion nut and yoke and put in the new seal. Clean the oil from the threads with brake parts cleaner and put some blue lock tight on the thread. Install the yoke and the new nut using care not to crush the sleave anymore but, at the same time make sure it's tight. I hope this helps, good luck.

If your car is a rear wheel drive, and you mean the nut that's just after your drive shaft, then...If you are replacing the seal, you need to mark the nut and the shaft so that when you re-assemble it you tighten the nut just a 1/4 " past the original mark. The reason is there is a crush collar that compresses inside on your pinion shaft to give it a little resistance. This is measured using a beam type inch pound torque wrench. I hope this might answer some questions. Setting up a pinion once removed requires a new crush collar, and the inch pounds of resistance are a little different between new bearings, or if you reuse the old ones.

If you removed the pinion and only replaced one of the bearings that was a mistake. You need to replace both at the same time. Also since it is a Dana differential you should have replace the crush sleeve also as this set the correct preload on the pinion bearings.

the pinion nut does not have a specific torque there is a crush sleeve in there and preload needs to be set
