Usually if you pump the pedal a lot when it's cold if the slave is leaking you will see some dripping from the bellhousing. I would definitely check inside the cab where the master attaches to the pedal rod to be sure it isn't leaking there and that's why you don't see fluid outside though. If you already checked there then yes if the slave is leaking, that's the only way in there.

97 jeep Cherokee clutch will not depress to start the engine

Now you need to bleed the clutch at the clutch slave cylinder down on the transmission to restore the clutch.
Put a wrench on the bleed valve and open it, then lightly close it. Now have someone pump the clutch a couple of times to build pressure. Then while the clutch pedal is slowly pressed down open the bleed valve, then close valve as pedal gets to floor. Repeat this bleed process until a steady stream of brake fluid comes out the bleed valve. Then you should have a good clutch again.

Clutch wont work

Check and make sure you have fluid in the clutch master cylinder. If it is low fill and check for leaks. Repair leaks as needed and bleed system. If fluid was full check adjustment and bleed system, if there is air in the system pedal will go to the floor.

Suddenly I have almost no clutch free play left in my 1990 Jeep Wrangler. Goes almost to the floor now. Was working fine yesterday. What's going on?

Sound like your clutch master cylinder has developed a internal leak or maybe even leaking out the back past the seals. Have you checked the brake fluid level in the clutch master cylinder resorvoir it may be low and you have air in the system. Either way you have a leak somwhere in the system and you need to determine where it is. Fill your resorvoir with approved fluid and while some one is pumping your clutch pedal see if you can see where the fluid is leaking from the jeep. Reair or replace as necessary.
good Luck

Clutch pedal low near floor, can the clutch be adjusted?

hi the clutch on accent is hydraulic operation so if pedal is very low on disengaging clutch ? you may have a problem with the hydraulics 1st thing to check is fluid level? this is the reservoir that feeds both brakes and clutch but is seperaterated inside if fluid low? top up and bleed the slave cyl however if fluid low indicates a leak ? possibly slave cyl? if no loss of fluid ? then prob may be fault in the master cyl ? check fluid come back with any update please ps if this problem has just occured? check for leaks ?

Push down on clutch pedal can't get car into gear

Likely, you have a hydraulic clutch system. Check clutch master cylijnder for fluid and leakage, check hydraulic line and slave cylinder for leaks. If fluid low or empty, bleed as you would a brake wheel cylinder. If full, have someone work the clutch while you watch slave cylinder to make sure it is moving clutch fork. If system full and little or no movement, the master may be "bypassing" internally (replace) Also, check pedal mechanical linkage. Not often but sometimes these parts can break! Could also be athat clutch itself is worn, but this does not happen overnight and you would have noted slip long before this!
