On the fuel rail there is a schrader valve(like on your tires) with a cap over it, use a rag to sop up fuel as you bleed it off...

Replaced intank fuel pump on a 2003 Mitsubishi Galant, car wants to start but acts like it's out of gas. I have 1/4 tank of gas..... what do I need to do to get it started????

Did you release the air in the system. You may have an air pocket stuck in the fuel line system. If it is fuel injected, be careful because the line pressure can be extremely high and if not released properly it can leak out under high pressure. Be sure you changed the fuel filter as well. Things can find there way into the lines when removing and installing things in line. Check that you have sufficient fuel pressure at the carb or fuel injection system. The system requires to be pressurized so that the injectors operate correctly,

How to replace 2003 mitsubishi lancer fuel level sensor. My fuel gague is going half to zero when the tank is having fuel. It's not showing exact fuel left

Hi.

You need to release pressure from fuel lines cutting power to fuel pump.Turn on engine and remove fuel pump fuse. See:How To Release Pressure
Then disconnect battery.
Take down the fuel tank working from under backseat and underneath the car.
The fuel sender is located inside protective Housing. Remove housing held by 4 screws.
Disconnect electrical connector.
Disconnect the two hoses connected to sensor. Be careful with fuel that may still spray at pressure.
Perform operations in reverse order to reinstall.

Here a website showing the job done on a Carisma.

Honda Civic Coupe. Year 2000 1.6. How can I depressurize the fuel system easily to change the fuel filter situated in the engine compartment.

Hi,

IMPORTANT: Do not skip the fuel system pressure release step. Injury and other damage can result!
Safety Step! Relieving Fuel System Pressure
· allow engine to cool
· relieve fuel system pressure
· put on your eye protection
Before you begin the job of replacing your fuel filter, you must relieve the pressure in your fuel system. A fuel injection system operates under very high pressure. If you don't release this pressure before you start unscrewing fuel lines the result can be explosive. Do this before you attempt to change the fuel filter.
To release the pressure in your fuel lines (and fuel filter) you'll need to locate the fuel pump fuse in the fuse box. If you don't have a fuel pump fuse, find the relay that operates the fuel pump. Once you've found the fuel pump fuse or relay, start the car. With the engine running, pull the fuse or relay out. If you pulled the right one, the engine will quickly die. Since it's using all of the pressurized fuel in the system, the fuel lines won't be pressurized when you crack the fittings on your fuel filter.
Now that you've relieved the fuel pressure you can remove the old fuel filter.
If you didn't do this yet, you must go to the previous step and do it. Very dangerous!

Best regards.

The car wont start after it has been driven for about half an hour or more.. i have to help it some times like give it gas and keep pressing it till it starts

sounds like the fuel pump has an issue,
seen this before with a stuck check vavle in the pump. the fuel pressure relief valve retains pressure.
once the fuel pump primes the line is over presurizes to line and hydro locks the fuel injectors....
the test i use.
drive car around for 10 miles, ending back at your place to work on it.
shut car off and try to restart. it should fail.
Carefully lossen the test screw on the fuel rail.
allow the fuel pressure to lower.
try to restart. if it starts after releasing the pressure then you know the vavle in the fuel pump is not allowing the pressure to release from the fuel line.

I need to replace the fuel filter, 1994 Buick Century Custom 3.1

If you press on the schrader valve it will release the pressure. It is in the rail near the power steering pump. After you are done with whatever you are doing cycle the key a few times to prime the fuel system.

Need directions on replacing 2000 dodge durange 4.7 ltr fuel pump

WHAT YOU WILL NEED TO DO FIRST IS JACK THE TRUCK UP AS HIGH AS SAFELY POSSIBLE.. BE SURE TO USE JACK STANDS THAT WAY THE TRUCK DOENT FALL OVER.. ONCE UP IN THE AIR HE WILL NEED TO TAKE THE GAS TANK OUT OF THE TRUCK.. THERE ARE TWO STRIPS HOLDING THE TANK INTO PLACE..THEN WHEN HE GETS THE TANK ON THE GROUND, REMOVE ALL THE FUEL LINES.(THERE ARE CLIPS ON THE PLASTIC LINES BE EASY) THEN WHEN HE GETS THE LINES LOOSE, THERE IS A METAL RING ON THE TOP ON THE FUEL TANK..HE CAN USE A SCREW DRIVER TO GET THE RING OFF( HE WILL SEE HOW TO TAKE IT OFF WHEN HE LOOKS AT IT) WHEN THE RING IS OFF PULL THE FUEL PUMP ASSEMBLY OUT OF THE TANK AND REPLACE THE FUEL PUMP (THE WHOLE FUEL PUMP WILL JUST NEED PULLED OUT, NO SCREWS) ..JUST REPEAT THESE STEPS BACKWARDS TO REINSTALL .. THIS SHOULD SOLVE YOUR $700 PROBLEM..GOOD LUCK AND THANKS FOR USING FIXYA.COM...KEITH..

Fuel pump

The fuel pump is in the fuel tank. There is an access port that resides under the back seat (drivers side). It can be use to replace and inspect the fuel gauge sensor. You can replace the fuel pump through this access port. To access the port.."flip the rear seat cushion up and forward, then remove the inspection hole cover." Before disconnecting the fuel lines you can remove the fuel pump relay or the fuel pump fuse and run the engine till it dies. Then crank the engine a few times to release any pressure in the lines. You can test the physical function of the fuel pump by attaching a fuel pressure gauge to the front fuel line under the hood.Turn the key on but don't start the engine and the fuel pressure should rise to 40lbs. Start the engine and let it idle, there the fuel pressure gauge should read 35 give or take a few pounds. As you rev the engine the pressure should fluctuate between 30 and 45. If this all works as such then the fuel pump and pressure regulator are good. You can also apply an Ohms meter across the fuel pump leads and test the electronics of the pump. Should be .2 to 5.0 Ohms

Please rate this a fixya
