How much pressure is required to press the lower ball joint out of the a-arm so that I can replace it? I have bad tire wear, especially on the right side. this is for a 99 Panger w/ coil springs do you...

The BEST way is a ball joint removal tool. It looks like a "Y" that is rounded at the junction. It is a split wedge that when put into position drives into the socket on each side of the ball and due to the wedge shape forces the ball joint down and out of the hole in which it lives. The diagram is in the HAYNES service manual for your truck, which is available at some libraries in large cities for check-out or for purchase for about $20.00 at Autozone, Advanced Auto, or O'Reillys'

2001 Sebring Sedan LX, 2.7l V-6, VIN Code U Lower balljoints: Can the front left and right lower ball joints be pressed into or out of the lower control arms on this vehicle? I'm being told by my mechanic...

Sounds odd... Rikkalan,

(but it appears AMAZON agrees with your mechanic)

Just go to ROCKAUTO and look up your parts...

If the entire arm needs to be replaced the separate ball-joint will not be listed...

Hope this helps!!

My lower ball joint broke and wheel fell off lower control arm the shop was unable to locate the new ball joint.the old ball joint was welded on temporarily to drive car. can i find just the ball joint or...

Ball joints just dont "fall off". Ball joints should be easily available. I'm sure the dealer can get any part you need. You may need other pieces. Have a RELIABLE shop check it over, your life is at risk, dont try cheap fixes.

Ball Joints

I highly recommend that you have a press available, they dont screw in unfortunatly.
To change uper ball joints; Remove tire Pull codder pin and remve nut Tap ball joint out of wheel/ brake assembly Remove upper control arm compleatly Use Press to push old ball joint out of controll arm.
A torch may be nessisary to heat controll arm. Press new ball joint all the way into controll arm Reinstall every thing Get a professional front end alignment.

Good lcuk and hope this helps.

Repair lower ball joints

The front lower ball joints are pressed into the steering knuckle. Once the brake components are removed, the CV shaft nut and tie rod ends can be removed. Remove the front strut bolts, and the lower ball joint nut. Separate the lower arm from the ball joint. Once the knuckle assembly is off the car remove the lower joint snap ring and dust boot. Utilizing a ball joint press (should be able to rent from local parts store) press the joint out of the knuckle. Re-installation is naturally reverse of removal. I hope this helps.
