Question about 1999 Saturn SL

Anyone know what position the torque converter sensor/solenoid is located in the valve body...there are six sensors in there? Thank you

    Hi thanks for the info.....there is actually 5 or 6 sensors in there, I think I get to them but I have no idea where the TCC sensor goes.....which one do I change out of the 6 that are in there.......

    Hello again yep I have this video from you tube all ready....wasn't sure if the pressure control solenoid (what they call it in the video) is the same as the TCC solenoid ??? see in the video there is 5 solenoids.....hope I'm not confusing you. Thanks

It is located inside the torque converter which is located between the engine and transmission. It is what links the engine to the transmission as one rotating assembly. The TCC Solenoid is located on the valve body. To reach the unit, you have to remove the Battery and Battery housing, Air Filter housing & Assembly, and the wiring harness brackets. then support the rear of the engine and remove the Cross-member located behind the drivers side front wheel. There are 5 bolts and 1 mounting bolt. The TCC is secured by 2 bolts directly to the valve body. It is hard but this can be changed with the transaxle still in the vehicle.

Eric, The TTC Torque Converter Solenoid is located behind the side cover which has to be removed to access. I will post links for you.

P1763 - Governor Pressure Sensor Voltage Too High

This code is refer for the governor pressure sensor which is located in the valve body of the transmission. If getting power to the sensor and the wires are not open or shorted then the sensor will need to be replaced.

GOVERNOR SOLENOID AND PRESSURE SENSOR
REMOVAL

Hoist and support vehicle on safety stands.
Remove transmission fluid pan and filter.
Disengage wire connectors from pressure sensor and solenoid (see picture)
Remove screws holding pressure solenoid retainer to governor body.
Separate solenoid retainer from governor (see picture)
Pull solenoid from governor body
Pull pressure sensor from governor body.
Remove bolts holding governor body to valve body.
Separate governor body from valve body
Remove governor body gasket.

INSTALLATION
Before installing the pressure sensor and solenoid in the governor body, replace O-ring seals, clean the gasket surfaces and replace gasket.

Place gasket in position on back of governor body
Place governor body in position on valve body.
Install bolts to hold governor body to valve body.
Lubricate O-ring on pressure sensor with transmission fluid.
Align pressure sensor to bore in governor body.
Push pressure sensor into governor body.
Lubricate O-ring, on pressure solenoid, with transmission fluid.
Align pressure solenoid to bore in governor body
Push solenoid into governor body.
Place solenoid retainer in position on governor
Install screws to hold pressure solenoid retainer to governor body.
Engage wire connectors into pressure sensor and solenoid Install transmission fluid pan and (new) filter.
Lower vehicle and road test to verify repair.

Tech notes When the a transmission solenoid is working intermittent, in most cases the problem is not the electrical part of the solenoid; the problem is foreign material obstructing the mechanical function of the solenoid or the flow of the fluid through the transmission valve body. If the transmission fluid is very dirty, it is recommend changing the transmission fluid and if possible removing the transmission pan for further diagnosis. Excessive debris or metal particles on the transmission pan could be an indication that there is a transmission mechanical failure and that the transmission will need to be rebuilt or replaced.

hi, this two sensor are really important,The Torque Converter Clutch, (TCC) or swithc is what actually causes the TCC to engage and disengage. When the TCC switch receives a signal from the ECM, it opens a passage in the valve body and hydraulic fluid applies the TCC. When the ECM signal stops, the solenoid closes the valve and pressure is vented causing the TCC to disengage. If the TCC fails to disengage when the vehicle comes to a stop, the engine will stall. The Air intake temp is for the engine performance, it helps to control fuel flow,and air flow. and about the location of the torque converter it should be on the transmission but dont know exactly where and the intake air it should be on the trottle body or on the intake maniful but same thing don´t know exactly where, i wish i can help you to locate them but i don´t usually work on hyundai (no offence), but for best result go to a local parts sotre and buy a Haynes repair manual for your car i should not cost you more than 20 dollars, hope this helps you.

Shift solenoid not engaging overdrive which


    The valve body contains six solenoid valves:
  • three PWM solenoid valves (pulse width modulation solenoid valves,
  • two shift solenoid (on/off) valves,
  • one main regulating valve (variable force solenoid).
The individual clutches and bands are supplied pressure from the PWM solenoid valves and the shift solenoid (on/off) valves and thus the gears are shifted.
The PWM solenoid valves allow direct actuation of the clutches and bands to ensure extremely smooth gear shifting through precise pressure regulation.
The shift solenoid (on/off) valves switch the hydraulic path to the clutches and bands, reducing the number of required modulating valves.
The main regulating valve (variable force solenoid) ensures that sufficient hydraulic pressure is available in all operating conditions.
PWM solenoid valves 1-3 PWM solenoid valves 1, 2 and 3 control the pressure to the bands and clutches.
Shift solenoid (on/off) valves 1 and 2 The shift solenoid (on/off) valves switch the different oil passages in the valve body to direct the pressure to the individual clutches and bands.
The use of the shift solenoid valves are needed for direct actuation of the individual clutches and bands.
Main regulating valve The main regulating valve (variable force solenoid) controls the required main line pressure for the individual transmission ranges.
The main line pressure is controlled dependent on the current engine load.

Electronic synchronous shift control (ESSC)
Control of shift operations
During a shift operation certain elements are released while others are actuated. Ideally this process takes place simultaneously (synchronously) to avoid jerky gear shifting.
The time for the shift operation should remain within the time limits provided.
When the shift operation is controlled conventionally, the pressure build up and reduction at the shift elements are set and defined for ideal conditions (synchronous shifting).
As there is no way of influencing the control in the event of different levels of wear in the shift elements, when the transmission has been used for a fairly high mileage it is possible that the pressure build up and reduction may no longer be synchronous.
The result or premature pressure reduction at the element to be switched off is an unwanted rise in the turbine shaft speed as the element to be switched on cannot transmit the input torque.
The result of delayed pressure reduction at the element to be switched off is an unwanted decrease in the turbine shaft speed as both shift elements transmit the input torque. In the process the torque is transmitted to the transmission housing through internal locking.
In both cases a **** will be felt during the shift operation.
In addition, wear in the shift elements leads to a lengthening of the shift operation. Therefore, shifting takes longer when the transmission has accumulated a higher mileage.
Control of shift operations with ESSC In the 4F27E automatic transmission electronic synchronous shift control (ESSC) is used.
ESSC monitors the shift operations and is able to adapt to the wear in the shift elements over the life of the transmission.
This is possible since the shift elements are actuated by modulating valves.
The system monitors the shift time whether the shift operation is synchronous.
If the PCM detects a deviation from the stored values for the shift time and synchronization of the shift operation, the pressure build up or reduction is adapted accordingly.
Throttle position (TP) sensor The TP sensor is located on the throttle body.
It supplies the PCM with information about the position of the throttle plate.
It also detects the speed of actuation of the throttle plate.
The PCM uses the signals for the following functions among other things:
  • to determine the shift timing,
  • to control the main line pressure,
  • to control the torque converter lock-up clutch,
  • for kickdown.
In case of absence of the TP signal the engine control uses the signals of the MAF and IAT sensors as a substitute signal. The main line pressure is increased and hard shifts may occur.
Mass air flow (MAF) and intake air temperature (IAT) sensor The MAF sensor is located between the air cleaner housing and the air intake hose leading to the throttle housing.
The IAT sensor is incorporated in the housing of the MAF sensor.
The MAF sensor in conjunction with the IAT sensor provides the PCM with the primary load signal.
The PCM uses the signals for the following functions among other things:
  • to control the shift operations,
  • to control the main line pressure.
If the MAF sensor fails, the signal of the TP sensor is used as a substitute.
Crankshaft position (CKP) Sensor The CKP sensor is located on the engine/transmission flange.
The CKP sensor is an inductive sensor which provides the PCM with information about the engine speed and position of the crankshaft.
The signal is used for the following functions among other things:
  • to control the torque converter lock-up clutch,
  • to check the torque converter slip,
  • to control the main line pressure.
No substitute signal is available for the CKP sensor. If the signal is not present, the engine stops.
Turbine shaft speed (TSS) sensor The TSS sensor is located in the transmission housing over the transmission input shaft.
The TSS sensor is an inductive sensor which senses the speed of rotation of the transmission input shaft.
The signal is used for the following functions:
  • to control the shift operations,
  • to control the torque converter clutch,
  • to check the torque converter slip.
If the TSS sensor fails, the signal of the output shaft speed (OSS) sensor is used as a substitute signal.

Service Engine light on. Problem idenitifed as: Torque Clutch Circuit Malfunction. I have this could be a bad sensor or a warning of something more serious. Anyone know what this really is?


TCC solenoid operation depends on signals provided by the Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) sensor, brake switch, Throttle Position (TP) sensor, Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) and gear position.

The lockup is the last 'shift' feeling when you get to a steady cruising speed. It basically turns the torque converter into a regular (manual type) clutch until you make a significant change in speed or throttle position, at which point it 'unlocks' and turns back into a regular torque converter. Not locking the TC will hurt your highway gas mileage, and may cause you to fail emissions testing (if you need emissions testing).

A simple loose/corroded connection can cause the error, but unless you have had work done, drivern through high water, or something along those lines, it's not hugely likely. On the other hand, it's simple, fairly quick, and the absolute cheapest thing to check for. :)

Most likely, it's either the TCC solenoid itself, or your torque converter is going bad.
Without the exact code (number) it's hard to be more exact.

your trans has lectronic controls to operate the shifting of your trans. If there is a defect, a fault code will be stored in the computer, called a DTC. You need to have someone with a scan tool check for the fault code. It is likely a solenoid that is not working or stuck.

Get the codes first. Autozone can run the test for free on engines, maybe trans codes too. Call your local Autozone or big parts store and ask them.

You may need your PCM, Powertrain Control Module reflashed by a Ford Dealer.
Try disconnecting your battery for 1/2 hour and then reconnect and see what happens. It will run a little rough and shfit hard until it relearns your engine/trans characteristics.

My 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 keeps giving me trouble codes with the latest one being a P1740. The code before was for the governor sensor which i have had replaced both the governor sensor and the governor...


For a few years, at least in my area, there was a issue with the tcc solenoid. It involved not only replacing the solenoid( dropping the pan and unbolting from the valve body) but also flashing or updating the control module.once both repairs are complete you should have no problems. A good dealer will help you out.
