The belt is either loose, or one of the many bearings that it spins is squealing. get a stethescope and hold it to each one of the accessories whilst running, a very long screwdriver held simultaneously to the ear also works, if none of them screech loudly then you should be looking at a new belt or the tension of same.

Tip

Squeaking of belt noise

A use tip for all car owners. no specific model/make.

The Belt of the a/c to the solenoid pulley or the main belts can create a lot of squeaking noise.
Start the car to hear the noise now pour some water into the belt and the noise will subside off . You have the noise confirmed of a belt as sometimes it will trick you to think of water pump bearings, alternator bearings or even engine noises.
Stop the engine and check for play in the belt if so tighten the belt If not use some chalk power or candle wax to be rubbed into the belt that was making the noise - the a/c drive belt - or the main belts..
Now start and check . the nosie would be reduced or gone.
You can have the belts changed sooner or later.

Squeeky fan belt noise after driving a little

It sounds as if the belt is dry. Belts dry out after a certain amount of time and then start to make chirping noises. If the belt is not badly cracked, you can try using a belt lubricant spray. These sprays usually only last for a short period of time, though.

When do i replace the timing belt on my seat inca van 2004

Those belts are usually supposed to be changed every 60,000 miles. Behind the timing belt cover is your water pump. They can make noise when going out, but usually a timing belt makes no noise, just breaks. If you ever have to change the water pump, it is always suggested to change the timing belt as well. VS. If your timing belt gets stretched, it will make a bit of a noise, but your car will start running poorly at the same time. Hope I was helpful

I have a 2002 Chevy Cavalier 2 door z24 . The alternator has recently been making a high pitch screeching sound randomly while driving. It comes and goes, maybe once a day. There could have possibly...

Sounds like a the belt may be too tight. Are you sure its the alternator? There is also an idler puller that is near the alternator that I have experienced squeeching. If so try spraying a penetrating/lubricating oil (WD40) etc. in the area where the gear shaft enters the housing. Do this with the engine OFF to avoid injury and getting oil slung in your face! This has worked for me on several occasions. Good luck and a reply would be appreciated! Thanks.

Screeching noise coming from the drive belt is this common

When your drive belt becomes old and stretches so it is no longer tight enough the belt will make a loud squealing noise and will need to be replaced. While the drive belt is off during replacement, you or the mechanic replacing the belt will need to turn each pulley in the system that can be turned by hand to see if any of those are making a metallic noise also. If they make a metallic noise, they are worn out. It is common for a drive belt to wear out and cause this noise.

Noise from area of serpentine belt.

The best way I have found to locate a belt noise is to take a can of WD40 and spray it on the belt when the engine is running. (be careful of the fan) If the noise goes away, you know that it is a belt noise and not a bearing. When serpentine belts dry out they make funny noises. Hope this helps, cheers

2004 alero making loud screaching noise by tire brakes are fine

It's the belts. Quick fix is spray some kind of silicone lubricant on them, like tire shine. You should really replace the belt or belts that are making noise, also check the belts tension. Too loose and they'll make noise
