Question about 2004 Hyundai Elantra

2 Answers

I have had my radiator replaced twice because my car started running hot. Now if my car idles too long the temp will go to hot. I have added more anti-freeze to the radiator but I never see anything leaking on the ground when it is parked. Could it be something else causing it to do this. I went to auto zone and was given a printout that it could be the thermostat.

Possibly a blown head gasket. Take off the radiator cap and run the engine--are there any bubbles coming up in the coolant? Check the exhaust pipe--is it steamy or does it smell like anti-freeze?

I'd agree about the thermostat being the most likely cause. Pitty the workshop didn't look at the most likely cause before giving the bill for new radiators! Regards Johngee

Is your 3800 producing normal heat? If so, the temp sensor is probably bad...If not, try replacing the radiator cap...if your system has air trapped inside, it usually runs hot, not cold...the heat is the key to functioning properly for you...Your radiator is a 4 stage huge system that normally cools very well...if you have heat, I still think your temp sensor is bad...ask to see one at your parts store, will help you to locate it. Hope this helps.

How bleed coolant line on a 2005 chevy avalanche

You need to start this when it's cool not hot take your radiator cap off start the engine start adding water into the radiator keep checking it with your finger and keep adding when the water turns warm to the touch keep adding water if it's taking it and squeeze your upper radiator hose continuously to burp out the air keep adding water try that and see how it works

1997 Toyota Truck 4 Runner 4WD 3.4L EFI DOHC 6cyl, blown head gasket?

Could be a blown head gasket. You might also need to "burp" the system. When the vehicle is completely cooled down, try taking the radiator cap off, topping off fluid, and start the engine. That should help get air out. If it starts bubbling and shooting coolant out, something is wrong. You could also try running without the thermostat or just go ahead and replace it. They aren't usually expensive.

Drained radiator added prestone Radiator flush refilled and started overheating, drained radiator replaced thermostat and now I get no heat from heater,Radiator water is hot

disconnect the heat hoses going into fire wall , put hose into one with pressure and flush as it sounds like it could be bloked in the heater core, the other thing that could be the problem be the hot ,cold switch as it restricts the flow to makes the heater hoter or colder , it might need tlc or replacing as it is manaul not elec

My Jeep looses oil pressure when the car is idling and if it is idling too long the engine temp goes up past center and keeps climbing. I have had the water pump replaced 2 times and i believe the...

Oil pressure will drop at idle because the pump is driven by the engine. It should not go lower than 20psi. (I prefer to see at least 30) Very low pressure indicates bearing wear and pump replacement will not fix that.
Pressure may also be influenced by engine temp and if yours is getting hotter than it should, that accounts for a few psi as well.
Your water pump only needs replacement if it is leaking or the shaft bearing is loose. It actually will continue pumping even if both things are wrong with it.
Overheating at idle is generally caused by internal blockage of the radiator, bugs, or leaves packed into the front of the A/C condenser, or trapped between the condenser and the radiator. Your cooling fan must be operational as well. electric fans should come on at just above normal operating temp and the mechanical fan must not freewheel when the engine is hot (it has a fluid clutch or spring driven clutch that allows freewheeling cold , and locks up when hot).
If your thermostat is new, check that it is not in backwards (spring end goes towards the block) and that it is centered in the hole.
When adding coolant, always run the heater while re-filling to eliminate air pockets, and always make sure the thermostat has opened so all the coolant can be added (fill when running)
I am assuming that you have no other leaks or problems.

sound like a blown head gasket and a worped head, when removing head for gasket replacement check head for flatness also preasure test it for cracks and leaks. find cause of over heating replace cap, radiator, thermostate, hoses
