I too have just had the Service Engine Soon light come on, this week. Hmmm, interesting. We all have 2004 Nissan Sentra's. I too believe the dealers rip people off.

A co-worker asked immediately - How many miles do I have - I answered: 62,528. He said that is a Dealer function...they set it to go off around 60k, so we bring our cars in.

Hey, so what if it is not true? I am going to find a service manual, and turn my SES light off myself.

I also had the check engine light come on 2 months before I was to pay off my car and it only had about 44,000 miles on it !!! I first went to Pepboys and they wouldn't even look at it and told me it was a dealer issue which I was fine with because I thought that the dealer would be able to fix the problem immediately, boy was that a mistake ! It first should a misfire w/ the head gasket it and was repaired then literally a week later my battery died. Wouldn't a diagnostic test pick up on a battery that is about to die ? So had my car towed back to the dealer and they charged me for replacing the battery (the battery lasted for 5 yrs and the tow truck guy said that is a really good battery because most usually last for about 3 yrs, that is why I got another Nissan battery). Then the service engine light came on again about 3 days later and they said it was 2 of the ignition coils. I asked why didnt it come up on the first diagnostic time and he didnt give me a straight answer, he just said that anything can set it off. My light is still on and have been to 2 other mechanics where they still wasnt able to diagnosis the problem properly. I have already spent about $1200 and tried of looking at mechanics that have no answers. Today I bought 3 ignition coils and having one of my friends install them. I believe that may be the problem for some of you because I checked that out on a website that had others w/ light problems and start up problems.

SOURCE: service engine soon light after cleaning carb

hey yeah actually i managed to turn it off my self not only that but i managed to find the error codes too, its an easy process i thing first you put the key in the ignition but dont start the car, wait exactly 3 seconds after putting the key in the ignition make sure u turn the key to the number 3, an then press the accelerator down an up (all the way) 5 times in less thaN 5 seconds, wait 7 seconds (exactly) and hold the accelerator down for 10 or more seconds( make sure u dont release it at all for 10 or more seconds) and then the service engine light starts to flash count the fist flash (which is a slower flash) if u get 10 flashes it means the first number is 0, the second set of flash s will be a bit faster, count this too to get ure second digit of the code do the same for the other 2 sets which will be faster also than previous ones, once uve got ure code just search it up .......to reset the code hold the accelerator down for 10 second an then turn the ignithion off and on again

What does an orange engine outline light on the

It can mean many things. Problem is, its always stupid stuff like exhaust leak, fuel cap, o2 sensor etc. As a 26 yr Dodge mechanic, its a way for people to keep bring in thier car to keep dealershiips in business for service calls. As long as the car runs fine, dont waste your money on getting codes read or someone ripping you off on replacing parts. Another light will come on if something major is wrong. Such as check engine, oil, airbag, ABS brake lights. If ya just want to be sure (and waste money) goto a small garage and have the code read for $40 and post your codes and ask someone what it really means, thats if ya dont trust your mechanic. A dealer charges $75 and up. As a final note: talk to your friends, family, and neighbors for a trustworth non-dealer mechanic. It will save ya tons of cash in the long run.

Service engine soon light is still on

You should take the car and get the codes pulled (you can do this for free at autozone or advanced auto and they will tell you what the codes are and what they are for. Service engine lights are normally caused by emission related components...Oxygen sensor went bad, a cracked house and that sort of thing. Best to get the code and find out to be sure. On some vehicle it could be something as stupid as a bad gas cap (dodges are bad about this. Usually the only way to clear codes is by getting the auto parts store, or dealer to clear them. If on a budget you can disconnect the battery for 10 minutes, then reconnect it and it will clear the codes. If you haven't fixed whatever causes the Malfunction Indicator light (MIL) to come on it will eventually come back on.

well I would take it to autozone or your local parts place for a free scan, yes they offer a free check engine light scan, they will give you a diagnostic trouble code and or a short description of what is wrong, do not goto dealer please , rip offs if you ask me, then once you get the codes, you can bring them back to me and we will look them up

1991 Tempo GL Service Engine Soon Light

you have to have it checked some how. it might be an OBD 1 adapter. the dealer is the best way to go, but if you go that way their going to want you to fix every little thing that is wrong with the car. dont let them talk you into it. fix only what you want to. i would only fix what the light is telling me to fix.

2003 Nissan Altima 2.5S, Check Engine Light Problem.

this problem could be caused by the mass air flow censor, i had the same problem with my car. it is really pricey at the dealer so you might want to check elsewhere for this part. I found one at a scrap yard for 85% less that the dealer and i also got life time warranty, the dealer does not offer any warranty on this part.

Hey, so what if it is not true? Luckily, I have the RECALL NOTICE, so my car goes in today anyway. I will ask them to turn off the SES. If they won't, then I am going to find a service manual, and turn my SES light off myself.
