SOURCE: should it cost a grand to replace the timing chain+3 guides

$1000 is appropriate at a chain garage or dealership as long as it carrys a warrenty. with the economy the way it is if you want to save money you can hire a mechanic to do it as sidework but you are taking your chances on how quick he will do it and you have to make sure he knows what he is doing. if you need the car done quickly and are not a good judge of character shell out the $1000. If you can spot someone bull"s"ing and have a little more time offer a mechanic $500. Sometimes you can drive up to a shop and bypass the office and ask the mechanic directly if he does sidework. Most will love the oppertunity because they are paid nowhere near what you pay for the service.

Need timing marks for a 1996 pontiac grand am se 2.4 DOHC

YOU WILL SEE A HOLE IN THE CAM GEAR THAT A 3/8 BOLT WILL FIT INTO. PUT A BOLT INTO THE HOLES OF BOTH CAM GEARS. THEN LINE UP THE CRANK PULLEY KEYWAY AT ABOUT 12 O'CLOCK WITH THE MARK ON THE ENGINE BLOCK.

MAKE SURE TO COMPRESS THE CHAIN TENSIONER AND RELEASE IT WHEN THE CHAIN IS IN POSITION.

2001 Suzuki Grand Vitara cranks but won't start

Most likely your timing chain.
This is a major problem 99 -05 V6 GV.
The Timing chain tensioner failed.
When the chain breaks it destroys the engine.
Unfortunately is an "Interference" engine.
This and the rear main seal are the big problems with these cars.

Sounds like a sewing machine

hey I have a solution to your signal switch, the problem lays in the switch around the steering wheel, if you take the switch apart and scrape the grooves out that have formed it will function normally again. Talk about a cheap fix but it worked for me!
