Question about Buick Skylark

1 Answer

My buick sportwagon 1966 has a problem with its automatic transmission. when cold the automatic transmission is working properly ; however after 10 minutes it starts slipping very seriously; could it be the bands and can they be adjusted simply from the outside ? do you have a manual for that? the original manual just says that the transmission is a super turbine; i think it is a TH300

The fluid inside the trans gets thinner as the trans warms up. that will tell you it is not the bands but worn clutch facings

Do the ignition switch an door locks take the same key in a 66 Buick lesabre

Kevin, Ignition and door locks are different cut keys on 1966 Buick. the ignition key was square/octagon shape and the door lock/trunk key were oval.
Below are links that show the difference.

Does the fluid for a 1983 Buick Riviera power steering unit require power steering fluid or transmission fluid? The pump on the vehicle has a reservoir which I was told was from a 1982 Buick Riviera. The...

I would drain your power steering pump, even if I had to take it off and dump the fluid! Yes, you do need to use power steering fluid, but what will get you in the most trouble is if you mix your fluids because then they work against each other.

While some people will use transmission fluid in a power steering pump in an emergency, I always recommend they drain it out and use the proper fluid in the proper place.

How do i drain a transmission (buick 400) on a nailhead 1966 buick riviera

You have to remove the tranny pan in order to drain it and to change your filter. Why no manufacturer has ever incorporated a drain plug for the tranny.....I'll never know! Here's a diagram to help you out.

Slipping Automatic Transmission

The transmission fluid gets dirty especially over a period of time and the filter gets clogged and gunk builds up. This will cause the transmission to slip and you should check the transmission fluid stick at least twice a month to make sure it is at the proper level or have your transmission tuned up by a trained professional at a dealership or transmission shop once a year. You will be glad you did. Treat your car with love and it will be good to you.

Does my Mustang have a low gear?

the C4 automatic transmission is a 3 speed transmission, it shifts by hydraulic pressure controlled by a governor and actuators, I would check your linkage to see that it is hooked up correctly to allow movement through all range selections, disconnect the linkage at the trans and see how many detents you feel while moving the lever back and forth, make sure to chock your vehicle as moving the lever from Park may cause the car to move. Let me know what you find, hope this helps
