Question about 1987 Nissan Pickup

87 Nissan pickup

This is carburated 4 cylinder, that is missing(strong like cutting out) under acceleration. Once the RPM are over 2000 there is not a noticeable problem, constant once the engine is warm but less noticeable when cold. I have checked for vacuum leaks, checked the timing, replaced the plugs, wires, 02 sensor, fuel and air filter , none of these had any affect. Any ideas?

May also want to check the EGR valve. Mine was full of carbon and not opening correctly and doing the same thing. If it is full of carbon you can clean it with a strong carb cleaner. I recommend auto zone brand carb cleaner in the blue and yellow can. Its cheap and way better than most name brand carb cleaners. Be careful not to spray it on paint or rubber hoses. I recommend removing the EGR valve to fully clean it.

Check the distributer cap and rotor for cracks and make sure the rotor shaft bushings are not worn out

    Take the cap and rotor off and grab the shaft the rotor mounts to and try to move it side to side. If it moves more than about 1 mm, you may need to replace them. Another sure sign is uneven wear on the cap and rotor contacts. The wear marks should be fairly consistant on all the contacts. Does your engine have 4 or 8 sparkplugs. If it has eight, try unplugging either the lead or trail coil one at a time, and see which makes the problem worse. If the lead makes the prblem worse, then the trail system is the problem.

Is this one of the greatest vehicles of all time or what? Well over 300,000 miles and still have 175 lbs. compression all 4 cylinders - not 1 lb difference and 28-30 MPG to boot. That's why they stopped making the Z24i :).

Disable the EGR valve and test. If issue is resolved you have 3 plugged EGR ports and all the EGR flow is being routed to # 4 cylinder resulting in misfire or the EGR valve is sticking open at times though you probably would not feel a misfire except @ idle & take-off.

It has a four cylinder engine and i need to know if its an interference motor or not and if it has a timing belt or change

Only one 4 cylinder engine is listed for the 87 nissan pickup, a 2.4L and
this engine has a chain not a belt, and it's not an interference engine.

97 k1500 5.7 liter vortec misses on cylinders 3 and 5 while idling. about 1500 rpm only cylinder 3 and 4 miss then at 2000 rpm only cylinder 4 and 8 miss. what could cause this?


I have had continuous missing issues on my 1997 Silverado after i had a new engine installed 30,000 miles ago. Today I purchased a new gasket for the EGR Valve and removed it. The mechanic had re-used the old gasket when he replaced the engine and cut corners to save $2.00. I found he had installed the EGR bass-ackwards causing my check engine light to stay on and the engine always to miss. Engine runs GREAT now

Missing at low rpm,s and trying to flood # 3 & 4 clyinders


I have fix this problem before it was my boss truck the problem was with the intake leak it was sucking air trow the intake try get a piece or hose and get close to the intake and see if your heard some sucking noise and also I did replaced the mass air flow sensor was bad and is on top of the electronic carburator injectors but when the air flow sensor is bad your truck don't seems to be stable at low rpm's and they do the same thing with an intake air leak so look for those 2 problems you may have only 1 of this cyntom but 1 is enough
