If the pulley is moving the bearing in the water pump is starting to go bad. Eventually the pump will start leaking.

1995 nissan maxima alternator replacement

1995-98 Models
  1. Disconnect the negative battery terminal.
  2. Remove the splash guard on the right side of the vehicle.
  3. Loosen the alternator belt idler pulley.
  4. Slip the drive belt off the alternator pulley.
  5. Remove the four air conditioning compressor mounting bolts.
  6. Remove the radiator fan and fan shroud.
  7. Move the air conditioning compressor forward.
  8. Disconnect the alternator harness connector.
  9. Remove the alternator mounting bolts, and lower the alternator from the vehicle.
To install:
  1. Hold the alternator in place and install the mounting bolts.
  2. Plug in the alternator harness connector.
  3. Move the air conditioning compressor back into location.
  4. Install the radiator cooling fan and shroud.
  5. Install the air conditioning compressor mounting bolts.
  6. Place the drive belt on the alternator pulley.
  7. Tighten the drive belt to the proper tension with the idler pulley.
  8. Install the splash guard.
  9. Connect the negative battery terminal.
Proper belt tension is important. A belt that is too tight may cause alternator bearing failure; one that is too loose will cause a gradual battery discharge and/or belt slippage, resulting in belt breakage from overheating.

check the four bolts that hold the electronic fan clutch and pulley they may be loose from when water pump was replaced

The pulley that the fan is connected to and which the belt goes around is loose and making noise. Is it a bearing?

If the pulley is loose and the bolts are tight, chances are the water pump bearing has failed.

Hi Cro,Seems to me as if you may have a problem with your water pump. If your vehicle is loosing coolant, that will confirm it. With the engine off and the key removed from the ignition open the hood and check for any looseness in the water pump by taking hold of the fan blades and shaking back and forth (If they're plastic be careful not to apply to much force, or you may break them!). If there is play you'll need a replacement pump!Best regards Johngee10

Freeing power steering pump pulley bolt

you need a belt rope wrench to hod the pulley, however you can remove it without taking the pulley off and put it in a vice to get it off. you will need a 3/8 ths drive ratchet to get it out with and tap it with a hammer also use a torch to heat up the outer edge to get the lock tight break loose.

Removing the cooling fan & fan clutch assembly on a 4cyl. engine.

Ok...the main nut that you arre tring to take off to seperate the two..It is reverse you have to go the opposite way to take it off. You may also need to go and buy this tool...

How to replace 1998 dodge ram van water pump, reading the manuel but having a hard time getting the cluth nut off, the book say use a special tool what the special tool?

There is a special spanner wrench that you need to hold onto the water pump pulley (the 2 holes in the big pulley the belt rides on).
The tool has a Y shape to it with a handle coming off the bottom end of the Y. There will be 2 pins in the ends of the V that fit into the holes on the pulley (adjustable). You put the pins into the holes, grab the handle with the left hand, and put a 15 inch cresent wrench in the right hand onto the clutch nut. Pull up on the Y shaped tool handle with the pins, push down on the wrench to the left (counter clockwise) to un-screw the clutch from the pulley.
Then take the clutch off the fan after you have it out of the truck.
THEN, take the belt off, then the pulley/clutch asembly off, then the water pump (replace with a NEW - NOT REBUILT PUMP).
The new only costs 20 bucks or so more, and it is worth the headache of paying more while you have it apart. If the clutch is shot, the pump is close behind because of the vibrations ruins the seals/bearings on the pump, even though you cant hear the noise, it is there. Take the LOWER fan shroud completely off by removing the trans lines from the radiator. pull the fan out the BOTTOM of the Van. Leave the top shroud in place but take the screws out so you can manuever the lower shroud out. You also may have to remove the lower radiator hose and move it aside. Good time to change coolant anyway. And since you are in there on top, change the thermostat, while you are doing the cooling system service. Use a PREAMIUM BRAND thermostat, like a STANT, it will have a small vent hole with a valve in it hanging off the side edge of the thermostat that helps vent air from the system so it will not overheat. Trapped air can cause the cooling system to overheat, so dont put the thermostat in upside down! Point go's UP.

On the 1999 Dakota with the 3.9liter, the fan shroud absolutely DOES NOT have to be removed. Very simple job. Simply use a breaker bar with a 15mm socket on the belt tesioner pulley nut. Using the breaker bar push (as though tightening) the pulley nut...the reaction will be that the tensioner removes tension from the pulley and the entire belt can be removed by easily slipping it toward the front of the vehicle...comes right off. The new belt can go back on in exactly the same manner. By the way the belt routing diagram IS CONVIENENTLY LOCATED between the hood latch and the radiator mounting for simple and quick person job, I did removal and installation four times in less than 10 minutes. (why four times? The auto parts store was selling replacement belts that were too long and did not allow the belt tensioner to provide suffiecient tension...I had to try four different manufacturers before the tensioner was adequately tight with room to grow as the belt naturally stretches from use.). I found no stringing around the fan is required because of the way the belt is routed (it doglegs around the main engine pulley which is centered below the fanhousing and then the belt runs from there to the left side of the fan housing...avoiding the fan/fanhousing all-together (sure you can try to go past the fan/fan housing if you so desire...but you dont have to...and besides the space between the pulleys and the fan is ample to allow the belt to pass between with minimal interference or a simple rotation of the fan as you attempt this method. One hint that made my installs easy as pie...the last pulley you put it over should not be a bezeled and ridged pulley or you will needlessly make life difficult for yourself...the last pulley should be the water pump pulley which is a smooth bore and non-ridged pulley (makes you wonder how the belt even stays on it!)...making it easy as pie to slip it right your last act of defiance to that mean old serpentine belt!
