The PRESSURE guage is just a "for info" guide.when you have an oil pressure problem, you have a red light that will shine brightly at you.........obviously if the guage shows zero you stop, right ?

1986 dodge d100 225 engine dodge oil light goes off when idle stays on when giving it gas

It sounds like the oil sending unit is bad. the safest way to check it is to pull out the sending unit and install an oil pressure gage directly to the motor start it up, bring the RPMs up and see what the oil pressure is. Ideally you want at least 15 psi at an idle and prefereably anything above 25 psi at crusing RPM.

I just purchased a 2000 GMC Savana 3500 with the 5.7 litter engine with 92000 miles on it. The temp gauge shows that the engine is running between 100 - 160 degrees, seems too cold. The oil pressure gauge...

you probably have your finger on the problem. have oil pressure test .when engine hot minimum 12psi.and change the thermostat.Don't cost much

1999 JIMMY OIL PRESSURE drops with RPMs after warm

Normal is 10w30.
If the oil pressure gauge is correct, my guess would be worn engine bearings and / or oil pump.

Vw 1992 oil pressure drops when warmed up oil pressure switch was replaced still have same prblem light comes on at idle and goes off when engine speed is increased

Hook up a manual oil pressure guage and take readings of the actual amount of oil pressure in the engine. It may be that the switch is bad even though it is new. It may also be that you have low enough oil pressure at idle to trip the switch. On my 2.0 liter the low oil switch turns on at 4.4 PSI at idle but when the engine is revved up it turns on below 26 PSI. You may also have 2 oil pressure switches, one for low and one for high. They would be located very close together on the oil filter housing. Make sure you replaced the right switch.
You want to get this straightened out quickly as VW engines are very unforgiving when you put off repairs. Hope this helps.

I own a 2000 vw beetle and i want to know what it means when the oil light beeps.... oil is full i do not have an owners maual bought as used

this light is to tell you that there is an oil pressure problem. either the pressure has dropped to a critical level, or the sending unit is defective (not uncommon). have a master oil pressure test performed - this is done by removing the pressure sensor, and threading in a special oil pressure gauge. if the oil pressure is ok on the test, replace the pressure sensor. if the oil pressure is low on the test, further diagnostics are required. good luck!

Had new motor put in chevy truck and oil pressure runs below 30ps

At 2000 RPM a new GM engine should be close to 45 psi for oil pressure. It'll drop to mid or high 30's at idle. Hope this helps.

You either have a bad sender, poor connection, or a bad guage. Replace the sender first.

What is the check gauges light

CHECK GAGES light (1) indicates a potential engine failure(low oil pressure, low coolant, coolant overheating) has occurred.
· Check gages and shut down engine. Gages should read as follows: Oil pressure 5 to 10 psi (34 to 69 kPa) at idle; Water Temp gage below 230 degrees (110 C).
· Check engine oil level (Para 2-11) if OIL PRESS gage indicates low reading. Check coolant level (Para 2-11) if Water Temp gage indicates high reading. Notify Unit Maintenance if levels are low.

If CHECK ENGINE light (2) is on, check engine oil pressure gage (3) and water temperature gage (4). If both indicate normal, proceed with mission and then notify Unit Maintenance. If either one does not indicate normal, stop engine immediately and notify Unit Maintenance

Oil pressure gage

At idle, at operating temp is there any ticking from top end of engine? Are there any knocking noises brom bottom end?
If no noises, change oil and add some Marvel oil to clean out galleys. If that dosent work, change oil pressure sendingf unit. Also, if you have a mechanical oil pressure gauge, hook it up and take a direct reading. Oil pressure (in any vehicle) at idle should NEVER be less than 15psi. Generally in 4.0 jeep engines it's never less than 30, with a high reading at driving rpm of about 40-60! (but, you did not mention what engine you have)

Oil pressure light comes on when I put the car in motion (at about 2000 rpms)

all turbo engines have a oil line to the turbo. If it is not getting oil the turbo will burn up and have to be replaced. Change your oil and filter to start with.
